Aliens carries on from the first film - Alien; hence the exceptionally clever title. James Cameron directed this one and he had a very difficult job to even equal the ferocity and sheer bloody horror of the first film by Ridley Scott. But he did it!
Aliens is far more gruesome and spectacular with pretty frightening special effects that are still as good now as when they first arrived. The 'alien' must be the most terrifying creature even invented on the screen. Forget Predator and your Nightmare on Elm Street - this is genuinely shocking.
57 years after escaping from the first encounter with the alien, Ripley (Siggy Weaver), finds herself back on the same planet, investigating a colony of miners and terraformers. With her this time though are some mean and spectacularly armed Space Marines and the greasy, snivelling guy from 'the company' (Paul Reiser). I saw the directors cut only recently and this gave a much clearer picture of why, after 57 years, are the aliens back. Reiser told them to investigate the crashed spaceship after being told by Ripley, otherwise - nothing!
The plot moves steadily along as they near the planet then explodes in a shower of lasers and bullets as the Marines meet the mysterious and, to them, previously laughable - alien. What follows is a gripping, terrifically tense hour and a bit as man, woman and child meet mrs alien and family. The score is brilliant, the photography and atmosphere are sensational and this is one great movie. Characters develop, fears and emotions spread out in all directions (even I wanted to shoot Bill Pullman's whiny persona) and the sheer audacity of the film simply engulfs you.
If you can't enjoy this masterpiece, shoot yourself now!

Advantages: great, fun movie, excellent C.G effects and loads of extras!!!!! Disadvantages: a little tame on the gore and violence factor compared to the previous films!
