Aliens is the sequel to the Ridley Scott 1978 film Alien, the story follows on from the last film with Ellen Ripley(and the ginger cat Jones) in hyper sleep aboard the commercial ship Nostromos escape pod.

Advantages: Excellent presentation of the film itself in terms of both image and sound; comprehensive photo gallery; interesting interview with James Cameron. Disadvantages: No Director’s Commentary; only one trailer included; no music audio options — essentially, this is not an extras-lite DVD, but it simply has nowhere near as much content as the Alien DVD it follows.
...was slotted into my player. Aliens is a very popular film indeed, and some people even seem to like it more than the first film. My own opinion, however, is that this film, whilst admittedly good, is slightly inferior to Alien, and unfortunately the same turned out to be true of the DVD release.
THE FILM
The film starts as Ripley is found in a state of suspended animation, drifting through space in one of the Nostromo escape pods after the events ... ...the region 2 market, and Aliens is another solid (if admittedly not exceptional) disc.
· Rating: 18.
Aliens is actually, when one sits back and considers, a very, very violent film indeed; it was unlikely ever to achieve a rating other than 18 on this basis, especially with the footage added to make up the Special Edition.
· Region: 2 (PAL encoding).
Region 2 covers Europe and Japan; this disc should be suited to all UK DVD players, as well as ...

Advantages: 17 minutes of extra footage Disadvantages: not a great cover
...when I saw Alien and
Aliens in a second hand shop for only £10 each, I just couldn’t resist.
Aliens was made in 1986, seven years after the first, and continues from where we left off. For those who don’t know, at the end of the film, she put herself into hibernation on course for earth, which she would reach in six weeks. Our story begins with her ship being salvaged, she wakes up in hospital and discovers that she’s been drifting ... ...to note is that the aliens are slightly different in design, the smooth head has now got a more rippled effect, but otherwise their just the same, doing the same stuff as before, bursting out of people’s chests.....
Extra’s on the region 2 DVD,

Interview with Director, James Cameron

...and I preferred James Cameron's Aliens to Ridley Scott's Alien. However as you grow older you realise Teddy bears with spears don't beat a good story line (Jedi) and an increased body count can't beat well generated suspense (Jaws& Rambo) as it is with Aliens, while the film pumps along at a great pace (once they land on the planet) there is never quite the same suspense or tension that there is in Alien, though whether this could have been done ... ...could die at any time. Aliens can’t do this as you know from the start that Ripley will survive, and that the kid will live (they always do). With this in mind Cameron decided the best way to build the tension was for the numbers of aliens and humans involved to be increased and for the aliens to be hunting the humans. This changes the film so much from the original that I was debating whether to include Alien in the similar releases section ...

Advantages: Brilliant, a classic sci-fi movie Disadvantages: A little predictable.
...of the film is frenetic. Aliens pop up all over the place, get blasted and are replaced by others. The special edition DVD has a few extra bits in, the best being the automatic sentry guns. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.
I'm not going to spoil the movie for those few that have never seen it, but if you are into science fiction or horror films then buy this DVD. It is incredible. Special features of the disk include the restored footage and ... ...the time of writing, Woolworths have a special offer on DVD's. Buy 2 get 1 free. Advantages: A Brilliant way to finish the Alien Quadrilogy Disadvantages: Last of a Brilliant Legacy
...Its 200 years after the climax of Alien 3, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) has been resurrected on the USM Auriga. Now the Alien Queen has been taken out of her, however there is some Alien DNA still inside enabling her to do some Alien characteristics. The scientists on the ship are keeping the Aliens breeding them and recording any progress they make.
Suddenly, the Aliens escape and begin their murdering rampage on a ship heading for Earth. The Queen then gives birth to a new species of Alien which could result in the end of the human race, Ripley and the ships crew are out to stop them.
The last one in the Alien series was produced 18 years after the first Alien movie and you can tell the difference. The special effects are alot more realistic and improved. Also, the story is as good as all the others as well as the characters...

Advantages: Good effects, acting Disadvantages: a bit macho
...The sequel to 'Alien' leaves behind the original's suspense and claustrophobic fear-factor in favour of a more macho shoot out. What we get, however, is a more than worthy sequel. On the argument over whether this is better than the original, it is so hard to say, as this instalment continues the story, adding a new element to the struggle against the aliens. We still have excellent acting, with Sigourney Weaver's Ripley being very convincing, and the near final scene with the alien queen reminds us that we are all someone's (or something's) offspring....

Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the sole survivor from the original ALIEN, is awakened after 57 years of drifting through space, her stories disbelieved by Company executives who tell her that the alien's planet is now inhabited and colonized. When contact is suddenly lost with the colonists, Ripley returns to the planet with a squad of marines, an android (Lance Henriksen), and a Company executive (Paul Reiser) with a mission of his own. Once on the planet, no survivors can be found except for Newt, a little girl who awakens motherly instincts in Ripley just in time for the acid-blooded aliens to attack in what quickly becomes a one-sided battle for sheer survival. Considered by many to be the best of the series, ALIENS is a fast-paced, high-intensity thrill ride that set a new standard for action films and cemented director James Cameron's status as one of Hollywood's leading directors following the success of THE TERMINATOR. Weaver received an Academy Award nomination and became a feminist hero for her strong, sensitive performance as the survivor Ripley, while costars Reiser, Henriksen, and Bill Paxton all give career-making performances in this landmark sci-fi extravaganza.
