Alien. ====
Written by Alan Dean Foster and Directed by Ridley Scott. And made way back in 1979, how time flies.
This brilliant film is one of my all time favourites.
Sci-Fi meets Horror but done with a touch of class.
The spaceship, Nostromo, is heading back to Earth after a successful mining trip when it receives what seems to be a distress signal coming from a crashed 'Alien' spaceship. The crew are awakened from their hibernation and set off to discover what they can about the weird alien ship. But what they find is the stuff of nightmares.
With a superb cast of; ============== Sigourney Weaver ... Ripley John Hurt ... Kane Ian Holm ... Ash (My Precious) Tom Skerritt ... Dallas Veronica Cartwright ... Lambert Harry Dean Stanton ... Brett Yaphet Kotto ... Parker
Soon the horror will spread throughout their ship and people will start to die OR WORSE!
With acid for blood and a built in drive simply to reproduce, the aliens are a formidable foe and a terrifyingly effective predator. Who will survive, who will be taken and who will be brutally butchered?
The opening of the alien egg and the crawling thing that emerges is ghastly, when it decides to give Kane (John Hurt) a big kiss you know things are about to get ugly very quickly. The crew are simply out of their depth and simply cannot cope with what is about to happen to them. Only 'Jones' the ships cat knows what is happening and he soon makes tracks for the escape pod.
The film was darkly shot but that was to its advantage because unlike more recent films such as AVP which was an awful film to try and watch, Alien was simply very, very scary. The eerie lighting gave a very spooky atmosphere to the unfolding horror that Ripley finds herself at the centre of.
It soon becomes a blood soaked gore fest as the crew find themselves being hunted and either killed out right or taken for implantation.
This was a ground breaking film when made that many have tried and failed to emulate, Sigourney gives a truly superb performance and mixed in with the rest of the cast and the dark futuristic direction of Scott makes for an unmissable Sci-fi/Horror film that will thrill generations to come.
IN SPACE NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM.
Very Highly Recommended.
Greg.
Supplementary Info:-
======== A film that gave us 4 alien films in total 1. Alien 2. Aliens (a very good sequel) 3. Alien 3 (Not so good, even with a supporting cast of Charles Dance, Pete Postlethwaite and of course Lance Henriksen as 'Bishop'. 4. Alien: Resurrection. (The weakest of the 4).
Summary: A great film.

Advantages: Excellent presentation of the film itself in terms of both image and sound; comprehensive photo gallery; interesting interview with James Cameron. Disadvantages: No Director’s Commentary; only one trailer included; no music audio options — essentially, this is not an extras-lite DVD, but it simply has nowhere near as much content as the Alien DVD it follows.
