The film itself needs little introduction. A tense thriller of amazing porportions, and so I was excited to purchase the DVD with all the added extras. The directors commentry is great, he has explanations, and reasoning for virually every scene throughout the movie, so if you want the insiders view, its very helpful. The film is one of my favorites, and I have no fault with the film...just a little dissapointment at the DVD extras section labelled "out takes". I thought wow, Alien bloopers, that could be quite amusing, to see Sigorny Weaver forgetting her lines or falling over in an ackward scene, or maybe the alien burping at an inoportune moment. I was looking forward to that section having been a fan for so long. So it is with much dissapointment that I tell you there are only two "out takes" and they are not what we Brits may perceive as "Out takes." I remain a little confuised tot his day as to there purpose on the dvd other than to provide and extra two deleted scenes. And the reason they have not been seen before is possibly because they are really not good!!. So just quell that excitement over that section, but get the DVD anyway, the film, the extra scenes, and directors commentry more than make up for the dissapointing out takes.

Advantages: Excellent presentation of the film itself in terms of both image and sound; comprehensive photo gallery; interesting interview with James Cameron. Disadvantages: No Director’s Commentary; only one trailer included; no music audio options — essentially, this is not an extras-lite DVD, but it simply has nowhere near as much content as the Alien DVD it follows.
