Alien Vs Predator is set in the present day, actually it’s set now 10th October 2004. A satellite orbiting the Antarctic picks up a heat bloom in it sensors coming from the ice. This satellite belongs to “Weyland Industries”, using thermal technology and data from the satellite they are able to produce a rough 3d image of what the satellite has found. The form created appears to show a Pyramid structure of unknown origin 2000 metres under the ice.

Charles Weyland (Lance Henriksen) calls together a team of experts to be the first to investigate this find, and lay claim to whatever is there. He enrols people from around the globe and various backgrounds to achieve this: Alexa Woods (Sanna Lathan) a mountaineer, Sebaastian De Rosa (Raoul Bova) & Thomas Parks (Sam Troughton) Archaeologists and Graeme Miller (Ewen Bremmer) a Chemical Biologist. These together with a cutting team to get through the ice, and a team of commandos set out towards the site location. When they arrive at the site the team find a perfect tube already cut through the ice directly to the pyramid.

Meanwhile in space the Predators are on their way to earth to begin their hunt within the pyramid. 3 Predators are sent down to prove themselves during the hunt. Donning their various equipment and masks they are dispatched to the surface.

The humans traverse the ice tube and head towards the pyramid, as they enter their movements set off a chain reaction to revive the aliens within. This is also picked up by the Predators who quicken their pace to reach…what has now become the hunt.

All hell breaks loose as Predator takes on Human, Human takes on Alien, and Alien takes on Predator.

“Which ever side wins, we lose”

My Opinion

I am a huge fan of both the Alien trilogy (ignore the 4th one) and the Predator series. So first of all I was looking forward to this movie being released. After reading many articles on the film, and watching various film critics, I became more and more ominous about seeing this title. Every review and film critic had ripped this film to pieces saying how bad everything was. Well all I can say is don’t believe everything you read or hear (except this review of course).

If you go to see this movie with a notepad comparing what was good about the original Aliens and Predator films then you will come out with a page full of negatives to a few positives. This film is nothing in comparison to its predecessors.
This film is basically an action flick with the Predators and Aliens included. If you go to see it with this in mind I believe you will have an enjoyable experience.

Lets get to the nitty gritty.

This is a very short film in comparison to films of today being only 1hr 20 minutes long. Although the film is pretty slow to start off there is plenty of action in the after about 20 mins.

The acting is wooden, and the dialogue is hammy at best. But if you’re like me this doesn’t matter it’s the Aliens and Predators that count. Surprisingly there was more close ups than I expect. In America this was a PG13 in the UK it’s a 15, this is a more realistic rating for the film, as it could scare kids very easily.

Predators

These boys look just as mean, as ever in fact even meaner. There are 3 Predators that take part in the hunt, each with there own unique face masks and weapons. Although each Predator has the same weapons, the individual ones use a specific one during the hunt. 1 a spear, 1 a net that tightens, and the last a spiked Frisbee that returns. Along with the gigantic knives that come out of their arms, these are ready to hunt. They do not have their shoulder cannons, I won’t tell you why as this plays a decisive role in the film.

Aliens

The Aliens have taken a backward step towards the original concept of the first two alien films, black slick and very mean. Using both graphics and costumes they mix works well. The come with the standard weapons acid blood, sharp tail, and inner mouth. There are the fully variety Face Huggers, Chest Bursters, Soldiers, and of course the Queen. The fight scenes between these and the predators show why these are a formidable foe.

Humans

What can I say, a couple of machine guns, but mostly run around screaming being killed.

Positives

Aliens and Predators fighting each other
Good Story Idea
Dark and Moody
Good Action Film

Negatives

Not Aliens or Predator films
Story not made as good as it could have been
Lacks the tense atmosphere of what will happen next
As in all action films fairly predictable.
Length of film causes everything to be squashed in so scenes come and go.

I wasn’t to keen to see this film at first, but was glad when I did. Take this film at face value just an action movie with the fantastic foes. If you what a good night to the cinema and fancy an action film then go and see this.

It’s fun, frantic and enjoyable. I hope you enjoy the movie.
