What's to be said about the Alien films that hasn't been said before? I'm not sure so i'm probably rehashing stuff you've heard before, if so i apologise.
I love the Alien films. Sigourney Weaver is my favourite actress and it is within these films, as Ripley, that she shines.

Alien sees a cargo ship returning to earth from deep space (it's set somewhen in the future), the crew are all in Hypersleep when the ship picks up a distress call and wakes 'em all up.
Landing on the planet with the distress call three members find a huge spaceship with a dead crew (big weird alien crew). In the bottom of this ship Kane (one of the crewmen) finds a bay of weird egg like structures, one of the eggs opens and a small crab like alien comes out and attaches itself to Kanes face...
Later on, after the alien has died and fallen off and Kane is conscious, the crew have dinner. During dinner Kane starts to convulse and soon a tiny alien with big teeth bursts through his chest...the rest is history.
Ok so we all know that but how cool is the Alien? The cycle from Face Hugger to Chest Burster to fully grown drone (or queen) is an amazingly inventive creature. The acid for blood is also a cool concept, this is THE Alien.
Alien continues with the sole Alien trying to off the crew, with Ripley(the wonderful Sigourney) playing hero.
Aliens takes place 60 odd years later. Ripley is found floating in Hperspace after the events of Alien and is bought back some time later. She then finds out that the planet she found the alieens on has been conolized by families so she heads back out there to save them...this time she takes the marines. Aliens is the big war film compared to the creepy horror film that was Alien. They are (IMO) equal in quality but Aliens has my vote for the appearnace of the Queen (Get Away From Her You Bitch!).
Alien 3 sees Ripley, Newt (a small child she saves in Aliens) and Hicks (a marine guy that survives the Aliens) crash land on a prison planet inhabited soley by males....criminal males at that. Newt and Hicks don't make it but Ripley does, so does the critter that stowed away on board...a face hugger that soon finds a host...and not a human one this time.
Alien 3 is often considered to be poor..uh uh. ALien 3 is different. It is very good. We got Ripley (with shaved head), we got Alien (this time slightly different due to origin) and we got the normal fighting and blood and gore etc etc. It also has a rather surprising ending..at least it was until 4 came out.
Ressurection is a mix of the first two films, creepy but also big and loud. Ripley is now half alien (you need to see them all to understand) and Sigourney shines as the half alien half human hybrid. Once again it's kill the aliens time, but with better SFX and a bigger budget.
The only bad points about the Alien films are as follows...
Alien and Aliens - No problems Alien 3 - Bad CGI Alien Alien Ressurection - Winona Ryder (who i think is great) is awful in this movie.
That's all folks. Of you haven't seen these films then where have you been? The first two are claiic and the remaining two continue the quality albeit not so high.
The box set is very nice.
Alien has a commentary by Ridley Scott (very cool), shed loads of deleted scenes (including the infamous Coccoon scene), making of docs and very nice animated menus.
Aliens has similar to Alien but there is no commentary track from James Cameron (Boo!)
Alien 3 and Ressurrection don't really have any extra's at all, which is a damn shame
At about 60 quid now, this is an essentail purchase to all horror, Sci Fi or any film fan than wants quality.
Buy it, enjoy it, be scared by it and love it. Roll on Alien 5
Advantages: They're the Alien movies Disadvantages: Not all movies can be this good
...that. Oddly enough, Alien seems to benefit more from being on DVD than any of the others. It's probably because until now I had only ever seen it on super-grainy-mega-muddy-hyper-blurry-oh-VHS. You know...where you have to turn the brightness up to maximum just to see what's going on? Also, this film should *only* *ever* be viewed in widescreen. The sets were designed for it, you see, what with all those low ceilings and interconnecting corridors. ... ...one of the best I have ever seen. Fortunately, the soundtrack is just as impressive, and is beautifully reproduced in Dolby Digital, which adds a great deal of atmosphere - especially if you've only heard the movies in stereo. There is one really strange feature of this boxset, though, and that is the fact that the quality of the DVDs seems to decrease as the films become more recent. The first disk, for instance, is packed with special features ...

...are a fan of the Alien legacy then you may have already purchased the video trilogy (the one in the rather splendid face-hugger case) and you may have even progressed onto buying the odd DVD version of the films. Now comes the ultimate (and probably) final release of arguably the finest Sci-Fi/Horror films ever made. In case you have no idea what the fuss is all about, the story began in the late seventies when Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and ... ...an incredible alien species. They soon discover that this isn’t a cute thing like ET, in fact, it’s a rather unpleasant species that will quite happily destroy anything that prevents its own existence. There are plenty of reviews on the individual films so I will stick to reviewing the DVD legacy box here for now. All four films are included (Alien, Aliens, Alien3 and Alien Resurrection) plus an additional disc (which is included in the ...

...an extra documentary disk, the Alien Legacy. If you haven’t seen Alien on the big screen, then you haven’t seen it. Until the advent of DVD no other media could do this film justice. Everything stands out. And you’ll be reaching for the remote so you can replay the young alien exploding from John Hurt’s chest again and again. Digitally re-mastered this film now sounds even better than it did when it was first release. Lot’s and lots of extra are ... ...disk. Onto disk three and Alien 3, personally I quite like this film, but it seems to be only for the purists. Very few extras on this disk. Finally onto Alien Resurrection and the final film, for now, in the series. Just the basic of extras on this disk, but who cares. Every disk features excellent pictures and sound and is definitely one for you collection. ...

...at least 2 of the Alien series then you should buy the ALIEN LEGACY DVD box.
Their should be no debate, no is it, isnt it worth it. It definately is.
The Legacy box set is the 4 individual Alien films added together so looking at the individual films will let you see the extra details on the individual extras - Alien alternate soundtrack, cut scenes etc, Aliens interview with James Cameron, cinema trailers etc, Aliens 3 making of film, cinema trailer ... ...explaining the origins of the Alien film with interviews with Giger, Scott, O'Bannon other crew, rehersals and so on.
All the films have been expertly transferred to DVD and the quality is excellent in all of the them. The Access menu is probably best on the Alien disc but all have a lot of thought put into them and are amongst the best of breed in terms of usability and look.
As far as the films go, Alien probably rewrote a lot of rules not only ...

...have to love somethin'). The Alien Legacy Box Set has plenty of all these and more.
Many many years ago when inter-galactic travel was new and Sigourney Weaver was very young, there was this planet with this horrible alien lifeform, with acid for blood and unending love for darkness and mayhem.
And there was this nice young lady who would turn her head just so and clench her strong jaws and (quite literally as time would reveal) would become the ... ...planet and picks up an alien when it attaches itself to one of the crews. The alien soon starts metamorphosing and starts killing of the crew one by one. The suspense is unbearable and you never get to see the whole alien, but this movie has what I consider to be one of the most dramatic appearances of the central character i.e. the alien. You all know what I am talking about. For those who have not seen the movie yet, I do not want to rob you of ...
