Series 5 was announced to be the last season of Alias , so I was hoping for a big spectacular finish, nice wrapping up all of the storylines that have developing through the entire show. It starts off by incorporating Jennifer Garner's real life pregnancy into the show by making her CIA Spy character Sydney Bristow pregnant. This was a fact many fans thought would ruin the show as Sydney was always an action character.
However, I think that they did a good job developing the character, turning her from a super spy, to a teacher to a new recruit. I personally wasnt keen on the introduction of 3 or 4 new characters, I just don't like change, especially for the final season.
The season tries hard throughout to bring back some of the recurring themes such as Rambadi and it also brings back the wonderful character of Irina Derevko, played by the great Lena Olin. A lot of loose ends are tied up, some far too abruptly in my opinion, such as the relationship between Nadia and her father Arvin Sloane.
It does solve the puzzle of Rambaldi, using the characters Jack, Vaughn, Sydney and Sloane, but I think they could have done a lot more with the story had they not cut the amount of episodes in Season 5. Another huge difference thhis season was the notable absence for a large chunk of episodes of Michael Vartan's character Vaughn. i think Sydney's characters felt somewhat lost without her Vaughn around.
But the character of Sydney of a mother shows they have made an effort to humanise the character, and Garner's acting was simply superb. I loved this season for the acting of the wonderfu lcast, I just find it a shame that they rushed the ending and that the shows creator JJ Abrams was not more involed, perhaps they could have had more direction with his input.
I did buy my edition from Amazon.com and it worked out that I paid only 16 pounds for it, delivered! A real bargain considering it retails for over 30 pounds in the UK.
All in all, a good end to a magnificent show, Jennifer Garner should be proud for her role in this show. Still a must have for any Alias fan, you must find out how it all ends!!

Advantages: Great show/Great cast Disadvantages: A few bad seasons/episodes
Created by the wonderful J.J Abrams (the creator of Lost), Alias is an American spy-fi television series. It followed the pretty much unknown Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow as she dealt with being a CIA agent. It almost immediately shot her to stardom.
The Plot
Sydney Bristow seems like your normal 20 something, however her life is a lot more complicated than just being a English grad student. Sydney is actually a spy for a cell called SD-6, but later finds out that it's not a cell of the CIA but she is working for the very people she's been trying to take down. She becomes a secret agent for the CIA to take down SD-6.
The Cast
Jennifer Garner plays the double agent Sydney Bristow. She and her father have got a very estranged relationship as his job takes him out of the country for weeks at a time since her ...
Advantages: all the seasons are found together and come with a bonus disc Disadvantages: No New DVD packaging in the UK release
This set contains all the episodes across the entire 5 seasons of Alias. The packaging itself it quite nice as it does a good job at depicticting the work of Rambaldi, which is an important theme throughout the entire series. The main dissapoint I found with this set is that even though the box itself is well designed the individual seasons inside are exactly the same as the ones you can buy individually and so dont exactly match, unlike the same set in the US which have all the individual seasons repackaged so the entrie set matches.
The quality of the actual DVDs are what you would expect for the format. Season 5 has a very good transfer, probably helped by the fact that season 5 was filmed in HD format. Season 5 does have its problems though in the fact that it is only 17 episode long compared with the usual 22 that are found ...

DVD Description
The entire fifth season of the beloved hit show ALIAS is contained on this collection. Jennifer Garner once again stars as Sydney Bristow, a 26-year-old graduate student working for a secret division of the CIA. The mission of this arm of the CIA is to combat SD-6, a secret terrorist organization whose agents believe that they, in fact, work for a secret organization within the CIA that combats terrorism. Quite possibly the most entertaining network television show of the last decade, ALIAS is a fast-paced thrill ride buoyed by Garner's performance as well as her taste for some outrageously risqué disguises on her missions.
