Alias is an action packed spy drama following your not so average student, Sydney Bristow, and her secret life as a double agent for the CIA. The series introduces a refreshing mix of spy gadgetry and action with day to day confrontations such as relationships and studying. Sydney's life is more complex than most however as she must cope with the overwhelming secrets she must keep at any cost, a lesson she soon learns in the series pilot.
The series one box set consists of all 22 episodes of the first series of alias. This includes the action packed series pilot which introduces Sydney's life as an agent at an organisation called SD-6 who she soon discovers are enemies of the state. She decides to go to the only people who can help her take revenge on the organisation who had mis lead her for so long by signing up with the real CIA and becoming a double agent. Also importantly the pilot introduces you to the main characters of the series, who, in brief are as follows:
Sydney Bristow aka Jennifer Garner
Jack Bristow Sydney's distant father, also an agent
Michael Vaughn Sydney's CIA handler
Dixon Sydney's SD-6 partner
Arvin Sloane Director of SD-6
Francie & Will Sydney's friends who have no idea of her life as a double agent
Marshall SD-6 tech guy
This series has plenty to offer everyone. Complex storylines are enough to keep the more thoughtful of us glued to the plot, even if as the plot expands its easy to forget how they got there. On the other hand Marshall provides Sydney with all the gadgets and gun power for some tremendous action sequences such as numerous explosive car chases and ingenious acrobatic feats on the part of Ms. Bristow.
Plot twist after plot twist will keep you enthralled along with a suitably emotional soundtrack which adds pace where necessary but also gives more emotional scenes a more solemn feel. Throughout the program there are memorable tracks from the likes of the Cranberries "Never Grow Old" along with more heart pumping tunes such as "Rave Alarm" by DJ teebee.
The nature of Ms. Bristow's work allows for a lot of fantastic outfits which the men will enjoy (for obvious reasons) as well as leaving us women with nothing but admiration for achieving such feats in 3 inch heels. The end of each episode will leave you reaching for the play button to watch the next episode and with a suitably tense cliff hanger at the end of the series; you'll be desperate for more.
What is also nice about this underestimated program are is the subtle use of humour which appears at appropriate moments in the actions. For example in one episode (although I'm not sure this is strictly from the first series?) Sydney is being held captive and being tortured to try and obtai a code she knows. In defiance she say:
"Okay, Write this down…. E M E T I B… Got that?.... Okay now reverse it."
This is a subtle use of humour which is often used to relieve tension from some of the darker scenes. This series does receive a 15 rating and with good reason as there is a fair amount of violence and generally some nasty characters you wouldn't want to cross. Apart from this I think most people could find some aspect of this series to enjoy ad I really cannot praise it enough for its effective mix of extreme action and day to day life.
Special features in this box set are a little limited however. There is a fairly amusing gag real which is amusing to watch. Also an extended look into the production of the pilot gives you an insight into how much forethought went into this truly spectacular program. Apart from this you have the standard audio commentaries as well as a few TV spots and Trailers.

Overall this program has had me hooked for a couple of years. You really do start to care for the characters your introduced to and have a variety of personalities to keep you entertained, from the cold exterior of Jack Bristow to the bumbling antics of Marshall the technical genius.
I really can't recommend this series enough. If your into action, suspense, absorbing plot lines, which can be a little far fetched but none the less original, then this is for you. Otherwise if your more of a chill out and not concentrate too much then maybe this wouldn't be your cup of tea. I'd suggest catch an episode or two on TV first if you can, if your unsure, but hopefully you'll be as impressed as me.
My rating: 5 out of 5
If you enjoy this then maybe try: Alias series 2 and 3.

A lot of the time, the show will have montages with various popular songs as well. ...chosen cast and strong writing, Alias Series 1 began something that no amount of criticism could stop - a revolution in the way television is written.

Advantages: Addictive and creative storylines Disadvantages: storylines are complex so dont take long breaks between episodes
I had always meant to sit down and watch this series as my brother and sister in law always raved about it when it came out on television. Finally last year i sat down and watched an episode i had rented from the video store and was remarkably surprised. From the start you are invited into Sidney Bristows world and are shown the world of undercover agents, double crossing and spies. A great cast (of people we are more than familiar with today - quite ... ...by all. There are numerous storylines to be following, none that are too complex or confusing (unless of course you did watch it on tv with commercial breaks and weekly episodes). The storylines are twisted and confusing with lots of surprises that make you want to keep watching. Jennifer Garner is supurb as the lead and looks fantastic in all her changed appearances. I must say i was highly surprised at the level of this show and how addictive it ...

Review of Alias - Series 1 (DVD)
Advantages: Action Packed, Good Cast, Amazing Story Line Disadvantages: Sometime unrealistic, Show has ended
...After watching every season of Alias I thought it only fair to write a review. This review does NOT have any spoilers.
===Summary: ===
This TV shows is now fairly old, (approximately 5 years old) yet still is worth while watching. It takes place in the states with Jennifer Garner starring as Sidney Bristo as undercover agent in a terrorist cell. Through out season one the viewers get to know the character very well as she is taken into many missions. ... ...some unrealistic events. Of course there are also some side love stories in it. I can't go to in-depth with a summary as I would not want to spoil this for you.
===Opinion: ===
Clearly I found this TV show to be amazing as it is the second time I have seen it. Yet others I know did not like it as they felt at time it was to unrealistic. Again as most TVs shows go, the viewer just needs to accept that it is not reality and then they are in for an ...

Advantages: Gripping, reliavble, exciting. Disadvantages: A bit slow at times
I first started watching Alias it was half way through the fisrt season, I got so hooked that I went out and bought the boxset!!!! There are so many twists and turns it keeps the watcher hooked. The only downside I can really see to the series is that it has quite a complicated plot and therefore can sometimes be difficult to follow.
The boxset sees star Jennifer Garner, ( also in movies such as Daredevil, Elektra and 13 going on 30,) become a spy ... ...a covert branch of the CIA, it turns out instead to be a rogue organisation which has no affiliation to the Cia, instead working against it. Upon learning this information Sydney, (jennifer) becomes a double agent for the CIA, which is where the real fun begins!! Now every mission she goes on for SD6 includes an equally as challenging counter mission she must complete. A sideline story is the insolved murder of Sydney's fioncee. Upon revealing her ...

Advantages: Great show/Great cast Disadvantages: A few bad seasons/episodes
Created by the wonderful J.J Abrams (the creator of Lost), Alias is an American spy-fi television series. It followed the pretty much unknown Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow as she dealt with being a CIA agent. It almost immediately shot her to stardom.
The Plot
Sydney Bristow seems like your normal 20 something, however her life is a lot more complicated than just being a English grad student. Sydney is actually a spy for a cell called SD-6, but later finds out that it's not a cell of the CIA but she is working for the very people she's been trying to take down. She becomes a secret agent for the CIA to take down SD-6.
The Cast
Jennifer Garner plays the double agent Sydney Bristow. She and her father have got a very estranged relationship as his job takes him out of the country for weeks at a time since her ...
Advantages: all the seasons are found together and come with a bonus disc Disadvantages: No New DVD packaging in the UK release
on each of the other 4 seasons. The last episode of season 5 also feels very rushed as though they tried to put too much into one 45minute episode.
That said this set is perfect for the fan who either only owns 1 season or non at all as it works out cheaper than buying all the seasons individually. If you have never seen Alias before but your a fan of series such as 24, X-Files, Lost I would strongly recommend you purchase this as this is, for the most part, a very strong series and worth owning. ...

DVD Description
Jennifer Garner stars in this television series as Sydney Bristow, a 26 year-old graduate student working for a secret division of the CIA. The mission of this arm of the CIA is to combat SD-6, a secret terrorist organisation whose agents believe that they, in fact, work for a secret organisation of the CIA that combats terrorism. This first season of the series begins as Sydney begins work as a double agent for the CIA, who want to destroy the organisation and its leader, Arvin Sloane. Sent all over the world on various undercover missions, Sydney must sabotage SD-6's efforts while maintaining her cover so that she can help take down SD-6 from the inside. Quite possibly the most entertaining show to debut on television in the last decade, ALIAS is a fast-paced thrill ride buoyed by Ms. Garner's performance as well as her penchant for wearing some outrageously risque disguises on her missions.
