Hmmmmm a whole film about Ali G? I guess I shouldn’t expect too much in terms of plot then, but is it funny? Well the short answer is yes, even though you hate yourself for laughing at times: it is really funny. As usual expect to see a lot of gangster wannabe style stuff, references to drugs, sex (girls), fast cars, and Ali’s erm individual dress sense is there.
One thing that I would say to anyone who hasn’t seen the film is that if you don’t like Ali G, then it’s unlikely that you’ll like the film. I personally think the shows are better as I like to see Ali’s guests squirm, but the film has its own positive angles too. The soundtrack complements the film perfectly, I love the drum 'n' bass stuff. I'm still not too sure about 'Mejulie' with Shaggy though. I guess I was just thankful that the song didn't appear in the film. I was very happy to hear a bit of Montell Jordan's 'This is How we Do it'.
In the film we finally get to meet Ali’s unseen friends like Dangerous Dave, DJ Ricky C as well as MeJulie, Me-Nan, and Uncle Jamel. Ali also has a dog called 2pac who he is quite close to (ahem! Watch the film and you’ll understand what I mean).
The beginning of the film is excellent and it’s the point where you can tell whether you are going to like the rest of the film or not. I must state guys are more likely to like the film then girls due to the huge number of girls shown in skimpy bikinis in the film. Naomi Campbell also ‘pops up’ in the film at one point. I like finally seeing the infamous West Staines Massive and the little gang rivalry with the East Staines Massive.
Amazingly enough Ali G is actually a teacher in a youth centre teaching the little kids how to ‘Keep It Real’. It’s when the youth centre is going to be closed down due to lack of funding that Ali G decides he must do something. He then inadvertently gets involved in the baddie deputy prime ministers plans to get rid of the Prime Minister.
I don’t want to spoil the film for people so I’m not going to describe what happens in the plot. One memorable part of the film is when Ali tries to impress a posh bird by licking his food in an extremely suggestive way. I found myself cringing but still laughing, you can’t help but not laugh! Another moment to look out for is when he meets the Queen.
I wouldn’t recommend this film to people who are easily offended, or if you don’t like crude humour. However if you want to spend some time just sitting with your mates and not using your brain for a while then it’s perfect!
