Alfie / Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow (Jude Law Double)

Advantages: Jude Law is fantastic as the loveable rogue. A great cast and excellent screenplay, fantastic soundtrack
Disadvantages: A little slow in places but more than made up for by everything else

...As the second instalment of my “Jude Law’s in everything series” I sat down the other night and watched the remake of Alfie. Now being a bit of a Michael Caine fan it’s a little odd that I’ve never watched the original version. So I thought as I had a copy of Jude’s new version I’d watch that first and catch up with the original afterwards. It seems that Jude is certainly Hollywood’s darling at the moment but it remains to be seen whether this will be a lasting stay or if he’ll be cast out in the cold in a couple of years. Jude plays the loveable rogue Alfie. He lives along in New York city and has the sort of live a lot of men would be envious of. Advantages: It looks fantastic, despite slight concerns over an entirely CGI created backdrop it works fantastically. Excellent Directorial debut
Disadvantages: Gwyneth Paltrow is quite believable as Polly Perkins

...For the third and final part of my recent Jude Law series I sat down over the weekend and watched Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow. I had seen the film a couple of months ago and as I quite liked it I decided it would be worth buying. I have to admit though with this being the 3rd Jude Law movie I’ve seen in 2 weeks I am getting just a little fed up with him. I think it’s a case of too much in such a short space of time but with Jude appearing in a lot of films at the moment, it’s an inevitable reaction from most people. The film is set in the late 30’s and New York city is quite a simple place to be. Unless you are a German scientist that is. Advantages: Ideal for action lovers
Disadvantages: Not so for those wanting reaaaally serious movies

...I feel this film is great, not just because it has 3 of my favourite actors and actresses. Angelina Jolie brings a wit which I adore, and Jude Law plays the hero perfectly. The way in which the film is made (to portray a cartoony/comic strip hero tale) is a novel one, and i feel it brings originality to the film industry which is starting to churn out the same old story. So this is a relief to those wanting a different slant on heroic tales. Gwyneth Paltrow completes the masterpiece with her portrayal as the main heroine, and shows the quality that has brought her to Oscar winning status.
