Advantages: Jude Law is fantastic as the loveable rogue. A great cast and excellent screenplay, fantastic soundtrack Disadvantages: A little slow in places but more than made up for by everything else
...As the second instalment of my “Jude Law’s in everything series” I sat down the other night and watched the remake of Alfie. Now being a bit of a Michael Caine fan it’s a little odd that I’ve never watched the original version. So I thought as I had a copy of Jude’s new version I’d watch that first and catch up with the original afterwards. It seems that Jude is certainly Hollywood’s darling at the moment but it remains to be seen whether this will be a lasting stay or if he’ll be cast out in the cold in a couple of years.
Jude plays the loveable rogue Alfie. He lives along in New York city and has the sort of live a lot of men would be envious of. He drives a limo and usually ends up sleeping with which ever attractive young thing happens t be in the back. In fact Alfie will pretty much sleep with any woman who looks at him twice. He...

Advantages: Stylish, Sophisticated, Sexy Jude Law, Sex & City esque Disadvantages: Drags on a bit too long?
...Now I have your attention, I will begin.
I am reviewing the remake of the classic 1960's film 'Alfie'. The film is set around the main character umm Alfie who is played by Jude Law. Originally released in 2004, I am as usual a late arriver to getting around to viewing it. I watched the VHS version, which I know is very 20th century darling, but it was on offer in Poundland for a um pound, so I snapped it up like a mad woman succumbing to the lustful vision of Jude gazing at me in adoration on the cover. I just know he was thinking about me. I haven't watched the original so unfortunately I can't make the comparisons I would have liked to but here is my thoughts on the film as a whole.
Who Is Alfie?
--------------------
Alfie is everyone woman's seemingly perfect guy. Smartly dressed, well spoken, charming, witty and sexy as can be...

Advantages: Sprightly, interesting, well done Disadvantages: Jude is good, Caine was great.
...remarkable by the context of the scene. The abortion scene comes sees him unexpectedly release his emotion which has been building up behind his bravado. The rejection scene (where he is replaced by a younger model) sees him have the rug pulled out from under him as he goes from a great high to a body blow low.
[Spoiler]
The equivalent scenes in this remake are Alfie discovering that he his child with his best friend's girl is alive and the same rejection delivered by Susan Sarandon. In each scene, Law is good. But Caine was great. And that's the difference.
