This black comedy drama, first hit our screens in the late seventies, I had a few lasting memories of it, so when I saw it for hire from my on line hire company I soon sent for them, three Discs produced by the BBC showing all five episodes.
It's a tale of working class people, struggling to make ends meet in the 80's, the days of strikes, and high unemployment. And Margret Thatcher.
The main characters, are Dixie Deans (the foreman) Pigeon mad Chrissie Todd, Loggo, if it isn't tied down he'll steal it, George Malone the old man of the gang, and who can forget the crazy Gizza job Yosser Hughes, All make up a gang of tarmac laying rogues from Liverpool.

Advantages: You'll want to watch it again and again! Disadvantages: I can't think of any!
...This DVD is great - All the best that Steve Coogan has to offer and more besides!
The scene is set as soon as you play the DVD the menu screen complete with alan prancing around to the theme tune of Black Beauty is a classic in itself - that is worth 5 minutes viewing alone!
The story is set with Alan Gordon Partridge now living in the Linton Travel tavern - a rather bland motel which has the convenience of being equidistant between Norwich and London. Alan's wife has left him which is why he is there are he is working for Radio Norwich on the graveyard shift!
The indroduction of his tireless PA Lynn Benfield is a stroke of genius as it shows even more how cruel Alan can be and funny at the same time!

You could probably pick it up at around about £11.99 in some places, particularly on the net, expect a little bit extra in retail stores though.
Series 2 & Knowing Me, Knowing You are great as well and should be added to your collections, but this is certainly the DVD for you if you want to get into Alan Partridge - AH HA!!...
