This has got to be one of Disney's best films.

The story of Aladdin is brought to life with the fantasitc vocal talents of Robin Williams as the Genie.

The Story
Aladdin is a street kid, who finds a magic lamp that when rubbed, a genie will grant you any three wishes you want. The one wish Aladdin wants is for the Princess to love him, but that' a wish the Genie is forbidden to grant. So, Aladdin must find a way to get near hear and win her heart...

The Graphics
Absolutely fantasitc. Despite being ten years old, the graphics can still put some of the cartoons of today to shame. The best ones have got to be in the Cave of Wonders when the lava is closing in.

The Characters

Aladdin
A poor begger boy - known as a street rat. Along with his pet monkey, the dodge the guards and steel food from the local market stalls. He falls in love with Princess Jasmine when he first sees her struggling out in the city. Although he has to fend for himself, he's not selfish and willingly puts the needs of others first.

Princess Jasmine
The beautiful daughter of the Sultan who's fed up of being kept inside the palace. She is being forced into marriage by her father and so runs away, leading her to Aladdin, with whom she falls in love. She is devasted when she is told he's dead, but soon realises he's not when a Prince Ali comes on the scene...

Genie
Voiced by the man with a thouand voices, Robin Williams, this is the real star of the film, he even looks like the Genie! The relationship between him and Aladdin starts off shacky as he's tricked into giving away a freebie, but soon becomes very fond of the luck struck lad. With the power to do anything, - with three exceptions!, - he gives Aladdin his best chance of winning the Princess's heart by turning him into a Prince. This is the funniest character of the film and I think the one with the most depth.

Jafar
The evil advisor to the Sultan. Along with his parrot, he plans to over through the sultan and rule Agrabar himself. Desguised as a prisoner, he tricks Aladdin into searching for the Genie's lamp in the Cave of Wonders. With his mystic staff he secretly controls the Sultan and tries to convince him that he should marry Jasmine. A truly sinister character, portrayed perfectly in the drawing and the voice.

Abu
Aladdin's pet monkey and best friend. He's a comical little chap who likes nothing more than gold and jewels, which often gets him into trouble. He's an expert pick pocket and makes use of this skill to keep him and his friend alive.

Eago
Jafar's parrot sidekick. He's a grouchy thing who's main concern is being force fed another cracker by the Sultan. He likes to impersonate people and is the real brains behind the evil outfit. Noone other than Jafar knows he can talk properly, the others just think he can only repeat what he's just heard. Another one of the funnier characters, who always gets the punchline.

Sultan
Jasmine's over trusting father, who fails to see what Jafar is up to. He's very impressed when Prince Ali arrives and is keen to get him and his daughter together.

Ragar
Jasmine's pet tiger who thinks the world of her. He keeps himself to himself.

Rugman
The magic carpet who gets Aladdin and Abu out of trouble on more than one occasion and brings Aladdin and the Princess closer together.

The Guards
Aladdin's enemies who are always breathing down his neck, but always end up in a worse state that the begger boy.

The Songs

Arrabian Nights
The opening number and very catchy. Sung by a travelling salesman who tells the story for us.

One Jump Ahead
Sung by Aladdin as he runs from the guards after stealing a loaf of bread. It's set in the market place and will have you singing along in no time.

One Jump Ahead (Reprise)
Again sung by Aladdin as he walks home after being told he's worthless by a potential suiter for the Princess.

Friend Like Me
The Genie's big moment. After being woken up by Aladdin and Abu, he sings to them of the possibilities they face with their three wishes.

Prince Ali
Aladdin's big entrance back to Agrabar, as Prince Ali. Genie again does the honours and you'll be singing this one for hours.

A Whole New World
Sung by Jasmine and Aladdin as they take a trip on the magic carpet.

Prince Ali (Reprise)
Sung by Jafar after capturing the lamp. he shows Aladdin for what he really is and banishes him to a snow capped mountain.

A Whole New World (Reprise)
Aladdin and Jasmine at the tail end of the film.

Aladdin is available on VHS and DVD and the soundtrack is available on cassette and CD

An enjoyable film for the whole family and is definitely worth a look.

Thanks for reading!

when i first saw this in the cinema waaay back yonder '92 -- i think Iago's cliche-ridden for a disney charachter, but i've come to love that parrot. so funny. i trailed on the cartoon siries on tv. even tried to collect them on video. this is one of the finest disney animated feature films.

Beauty and The Beast is my fave of all time though I think the new Lion King 3 rocks as well! I love the way you have set this op out - so easy to read. Carmen x
