...I have finally watched the Godfather Triology. It comes in a boxedset, and includes five tapes of about one and a half hour per tape. I started with tape one and could not leave, or go to sleep until they were all done. Trully a wonderful film depicting Mafia family life, the dangers, the loves, the losses, and everything in between.
Watching AlPacino as michael turn from the innocent son that wanted nothing to do with the family business, to the head of the family, and the greatest of all the brothers. AlPacino did a wonderful job, and it just goes to show that the studios are not always right, directors should have the last word as to who should get what part. Originally the studios did not want Marlon Brando, and AlPacino in the film, but these two were the main characters of the whole film. They carried the films to great...

Advantages: Superb acting & directing, pace, score, etc. etc. etc. Disadvantages: Absolutely None!
...Even though Donnie Brasco didn't quite set the box office alight on its 1997 release, it did win huge applause from critics & serious movie-goers across the board.
Under the directorship of Englishman Mike Newall, who's portfolio for film direction is long but fairly undistinguished with the exception of Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994). Newall adapted the published memoirs of Joe Pistone (under the name of Donnie Brasco), a real-life FBI agent who infiltrated a gang of relatively small-time hoods belonging to the Mob in Brooklyn back in the late 70s.
Johnny Depp, as Pistone, gives a performance of a lifetime, as the aspiring young agent & family man gradually being subsumed into the brightlights of the underworld. He meets up & later befriends his first contact,Lefty Ruggiero (AlPacino), a man who has been connected with the mob...

Advantages: intelligent and tense Disadvantages: none
...Insomnia is a tense, clever film that will keep you guessing. It stars AlPacino and for some daft reason I also confuse AlPacino with Robert De niro, but it is definitely AlPacino in this film I’ve just checked the box! They are very similar or is is just me!
AlPacino plays Will Dormer a jaded, seen it all and sick of it LAPD cop.Along with his partner he is sent to a remote Alaskan town to investigate a murder. Call me nit picking, but I did wonder at this, surely there are cities nearer to Alaska than L.A that can lend a couple of jaded homicide cops?
They are investigating the murder of Kay, a local teenager who has been found literally beaten to death. The town is quiet, small and unused to murders. It’s summertime and therefore in the grip of the midnight sun where the sun never sets. This destroys Dormer’s bodyclock...
