Advantages: Funny Disadvantages: May be offensive to some people (can't think who though)
Al Murray is an enigma to me. I have a very modern sense of humour and so bar a few things anything before the 1980's seem kinda flat. Especially the kind of comedians Al Murray is reminiscent of. You know the type, racist, sexist, homophobic and cliched jokes about mother in laws and how England beat Germany in the 1966 world cup, I would rather eat sand than watch anything of that sort. And yet I love Al Murray, I think he's hilarious!

I have heard people saying how British people have lost their identity, personally I don't see it myself, but maybe that's why some people like him? Because there's something very cheeky and charming about him that's why we let him get away with it.

I think it's because he knows exactly what he's saying is stupid that's funny for me, it's done in an ironic way, he's sending up the people down the pub who make these kind of jokes and he does it brilliantly. It's like crossing one of those old fashioned comedians with Albert Einstein. He is a very intelligent person, he knows at least some French and German, can ad-lib fantastically and is not afraid to embarrass himself to get a laugh. He covers such subjects as The War on Terror, Hell and life itself, all delivered in his unique style. There aren't much extras to speak of, just a relatively short behind the scenes extra which gives a more in-depth look at Al and his comedy routine.

I don't know, all I know is Al Murray is one of the best British comedians around today and if you haven't seen any of his stuff I recommend you do!

Review of Al Murray - The Pub Landlord - Live At The Palladium (DVD)
Advantages: Very Funny, Very Different Disadvantages: Not like any other comedian
I recieved Al Murray -Live at the Palladium as a christmas gift this year. Im a huge fan of comedy and stand up in particular but i had never encountered Al before. At first i was not impressed. He struck me as rather loud and obvious, as well as having little wit or subtlety to his performance. I stuck with it thought and quickly found myself in stiches. His tongue in cheek style appealed to me in a way i cannot fully explain and he hit a spot no ... ...out of left field he will have you clutching your sides, fearing that any moment they will split.
The performance is of decent length and he keeps it together all the way through without it tailing off. His jokes dont get old as by the time youve laughed hes off and on to something else. As well as this, his character The Pub Landlord is actaully the one performing and he keeps a difficult balance, maintaining almost a performance within a performance ...
