Advantages: Traditional Comedy Disadvantages: Traditional Comedy
...AlMurray is a love/hate kind of stand-up - his archetypal pub humour seems to appeal more to what the media would consider a generation that's past. I'm not so sure this is the case. This stand-up routine holds up with "comedy genii" of today, the Peter Kay's and Ricky Gervais' of the world, but is just more old-fashioned.
To those who saw Time Gentleman Please, the underrated sitcom in which Murray played his Landlord character, his stand-up is a natural extension of this. The bigoted, patriotic and traditional pub landlord, standing up for all that is British.
One of the strengths of the characters is that there is something ridiculously gay about Murray anyway. The fact we know this humour is tongue-in-cheek almost makes it acceptable to laugh at.
As an old traditionalist (says a boy of 17), there's certainly room for this among...

Out of Left Field Review ofAlMurray - The Pub Landlord - Live At The Palladium DVDby

Advantages: Very Funny, Very Different Disadvantages: Not like any other comedian
...I recieved AlMurray -Live at the Palladium as a christmas gift this year. Im a huge fan of comedy and stand up in particular but i had never encountered Al before.
At first i was not impressed. He struck me as rather loud and obvious, as well as having little wit or subtlety to his performance. I stuck with it thought and quickly found myself in stiches. His tongue in cheek style appealed to me in a way i cannot fully explain and he hit a spot no other comedian ever has. His style seems to lul then out of left field he will have you clutching your sides, fearing that any moment they will split.
The performance is of decent length and he keeps it together all the way through without it tailing off. His jokes dont get old as by the time youve laughed hes off and on to something else. As well as this, his character The Pub Landlord...

All hail the ale! Review ofAlMurray - The Pub Landlord - Live - My Gaff My Rules DVDby

Advantages: Hillariously funny Disadvantages: Don't watch in front of the parents!
...AlMurray is here in his first live stand-up DVD. For anyone who has not seen the landlord live I will fill you in on his main philosophies in life.
Men drink beer
Women drink wine (or a fruit based beverage)
The French are all scum
That's pretty much it! It's a simple life made all the more understandable once you've been drinking! This DVD shows Murray at the Playhouse theatre in London. Though you may be worried that it will all be scripted comedy (following the likes of The Office's Ricky Gervais) this comedian has a very different style.
For the first half of the act he talks to people in the audience "Hello guv what's your name?" No matter what they say the trademark response of "Beautiful British name" follows. This is funny but can become a bit repetitive at points. My personal favorite was when he asked one man what...
