Al Fresco Celebration - Jacques Pepin DVD

Advantages: Hilarious
Disadvantages: Not a lot!

...~ ~ I just couldn’t resist it. I really couldn’t. There was the ‘mad cabbie’ with a £20 Amazon voucher to spend, and I knew exactly what I wanted. The ‘American Werewolf in London’ DVD. (Review to follow) And then I spotted it as I was browsing around the DVD section in general. A film absolutely made for a mad wee Dublin cabbie. Sid James and Hattie Jacques in the 1963 comedy film by director Gerald Thomas, ‘Carry On Cabby’. I was always a ‘Carry On’ fan, and this was one I hadn’t seen before, so a further £12.99 was promptly added to my credit card bill, and the movie is now part of my (fast growing) DVD collection. ~ ~The late Sid James plays Charlie, the obsessive owner of a taxi company called “Speedee Taxis” (how original) in a small provincial English city. Advantages: You will "watch" the "big Blue"
Disadvantages: You will want to live near the sea...

...A dive into a mixed see of cultures, experiences, and cultures... you have frenchs, italians, americans... and a lot more... reaching deeper without oxygen is the purpose. But mainly to tell the world the story of Jacques Mayol (the main charachter wich is also technical consultant for the movie). and his discovery of life outside the water... Great performace of Jean Réno one of the most used actors of Luc Besson. The story starts with two kids Jacques Mayol and Enzo Molinari, a french skinny guy and an strong fat italian, but two very good divers, they don't hate each other but they stick with different actitudes, Jacques wants to help the others, while Enzo will do everything for money and to be one of the best! Then one day while Jacques wents to help is father and is uncle with the fishing is father as an accident and dies... Read review

...This afternoon while attempting to sort out more of my stuff (its really not easy to integrate a flatload of stuff in to a fully furnished house you know) I came across this DVD, one which I was given by a friend at uni because she hated it but I have come to love. The story in its simplicity is that of Jacques and his love of the sea and its creatures but also draws in Enzo a champion freediver and someone who has known Jacques since childhood, and Johana an american Insurance worker who meets Jacques in Peru where his bodily responses to being underwater and at depth are being monitored by a scientist. The plot as it is is sadly weak meaning the film relies on the gorgeous scenery of the locations to capture the viewer, in fact if this were a typical love story you would soon grow to hate Jacques for his somewhat shoddy treatment...
