STORY
If anyone is into the paranormal then this is a series you have to watch, originally shown on ITV Afterlife has to be one of the best award winning drama series going.
Robert Bridge is a psychology teacher whose son was killed in a car accident. Alison Mundy is a psychic medium, the question is, is she a fraud or can she actually see sprits and get in touch with Robert's dead son?
Intrigued by what Robert discovers in Alison at a clairvoyance meeting he decides to follow her and write an autobiography about her, but the book he is writing is he trying to prove Alison is a fraud?
Throughout the series we see Robert and Alison's friendship/relationship thrown into crisis as each other discover a lot about Robert and Alison's past.
Each episode tells a story, this drama is one of those dramas where you're not sure what's going to happen next so it's best to have the lights on when watching each one.
Without giving too much away I have gave a small synopsis for each episode so if you don't want to read then please skip this next section.
Series One:
1. More than Meets the Eye. - Alison has just moved to Bristol for a fresh start but is already fed up with the spirits pestering her, She attends a clairvoyance meeting to earn some extra cash where she picks up 'vibes' shall we say on a young girl who has a past which she would rather forget.
2. Lower than Bones. - This episode scared me a little, A little girl goes missing and when Alison sees her in the supermarket wet and shivering there is no question that this little girl is already dead or is she?
3. Daniel One and Two - Out of the whole series this is the only episode I did'nt like, Daniel has a chilling friend but is his friend for real or imaginary, could be his dead twin and is he really out for revenge - You Decide!
4. Misdirection. - Mark Benton stars in this episode as a nurse in an old peoples home but when Mark starts to hear things he starts taking tablets, convinced that one of the old dears who died has come back to haunt him, Alison on the otherhand has her own battles to fight with when she finds out Roberts mother lives at the nursing home too.
5. Sleeping with the Dead. - Alison is asked for help from a woman who claims her flat is haunted, Alison visits her flat to find the house cold and the woman with lots and lots of light bulbs in her cupboard, Is this woman out to get Alison and prove she is a fraud?
6. The 7:59 Club. - Alison is finally found by the people she tried to get away from. These are survivors from a train crash which nearly killed Alison, these people will stop at nothing to get in contact with the dead even if it means Alison will loose her life in the process.
Series Two:
1. Roadside Bouquets. - When Alison is on her way to see Robert to give a lecture to his students, she sees a girl at the side of the road who then disapears, At the similar time 3 other teenagers have appeared from a car crash. Can Alison find out whats happened to these 4 teenagers.
2. The Rat Man. - Not really much to say about this one accept the story unfolds inside a prison and I hated this episode. I'm not scared of rats but this did send a shiver or two to my spine.
3. Lullaby. - A husband hears voices through the baby monitor when no-one else is in the house. Is 'daddy' cracking up and going around the bend or is there a ghostly prescence in this house…..
4. Your Hand in Mine. - Julie Graham stars in this episode and plays a wonderful part. Her best friend died sometime back and Julie is now seeing her dead friends husband but is Julie going to die of the same disease her friend died of or can it be stopped in time.
5. Mirrorball. - Another episode I wasn't really keen off centres around a teenage girl who is traumatised by something from the past.
6. Mind the Bugs Don't Bite. - Is Alison cracking up and having a nervous breakdown, Robert still hasn't told her about his cancer but he's determined to help Alion before she finally cracks up!
7. Things Forgotten. - A young teenage boy is seeing things - a floating balloon, this episode reminded me of something out of Stephen King's IT. Robert is preparing his last wishes but still hasn't told Alison he's dying.
8. A Name Written in Water. - Alison sees Robert and knows he is dead but it's a race against time to find out where her friend is and if he is actually dead or not….

OVERALL OPINION
Both Lesley Sharp and Andrew Lincoln play their parts with such passion and realism its untrue, the acting is superb, the special effects are brilliant and in nearly each episode there are bits where you want to hide behind the sofa or grab a tissue to stop yourself crying.
I can't see it but it would be great if there was a series 3 where perhaps Robert came back to guide Alison but I can't see it.
The series is something you won't want to watch once but can guarantee you will watch at least twice and well worth the purchase!
