Advantages: Suberb photography, absorbing stories, historical record Disadvantages: title music
...I don't mind admitting that I love this country of ours, and one of the things I love most is the spectacular coastline that we are blessed with. It is no surprise then that when the Beeb produced the first series of Coast I was an ardent viewer.
Of course when the trailers for the second series started showing I did wonder how they could follow up the first one, maybe do it all the other way round? Walk backwards? As it turned out I need not have worried, save for the fact that through work and other commitments I missed all but two programmes. So I was mighty pleased when a DVD of the second series appeared on Christmas morning.

Advantages: cool dragons, lots of explosions, silly speeches etc, McConaughey Disadvantages: silly speeches, complete lack of logic, ending is much too neat, lots of pointless posturing
...of the resistance. But seeing as this is a good versus evil tale, one cannot let logic get in the way of predictability.
Speaking of logic, there remains one question that is essentially unanswered in the movie - where the hell did they all come from? We are to believe that there is but one male dragon out of millions, and that all the rest are mummy dragons, which doesn't quite explain how the big dragon produces all of these buggers. There will be still millions left, but once he dies, they all go and hide in caves and cower at the might of humanity. Apparently.
As to how they look, well, the few glimpses you get of them are quite impressive - and I particularly liked how they portrayed their aerial agility...

Advantages: Shows lovely scenery Disadvantages: Another niche market product
...I picked this DVD up for £9.99 last time I went shopping to see if it was any different compared to Manx Moods, another product I've reviewed. And suffice to say - it is.
Its presented by Charles Guard, and travels over the Isle of Man and discusses the impact the last Ice age had on sculpting the hills and the northern plains. It shows some very nice views, and in my opinion is just generally more interesting than Manx Moods. One example is the re-telling of the stories of Peel Castle and the small island it sits on just off the coast of the Peel itself, and lets you appreciate the history behind it.
Everything in this DVD is filmed from the air, via helicopter, and it gives a unique perspective on the land formations, cliffs and hills that have emerged. I thought it was quite 'dudey' with some of the more tricky shots...
