DVD Description
Karyn Kusama, the writer-director of GIRLFIGHT, the story of a tough female boxer, turns her attentions to a tough female superhero in AEON FLUX. Based on a series of animated shorts that aired on MTV, the live-action feature film version stars Charlize Theron, in jet black hair, as the secret agent of the title. Aeon Flux is a Monican who has been ordered to assassinate Trevor Goodchild (Martin Csokas), the leader of Bregna a futuristic walled city that is the last vestige of humanity on 25th-Century earth. But a long-buried memory prevents her from killing him, ultimately making both of them targets. As Trevor battles his brother, Oren (Jonny Lee Miller), for control of Bregna, Aeon seeks revenge for the murder of her sister (Amelia Warner) while also being hunted down by her former partner, Sithandra (Sophie Okonedo). At the centre of it all is a secret that threatens to tear everything apart. Theron, who performed most of her own stunts, glides through the film in barely-there outfits, while also jumping, running, slinking, diving, and cartwheeling her way through dangerous situations, recalling the gorgeous movements made by the animated version. The film alternates between stark gray-and-white sets and brilliant splashes of red, green, and yellow, adding a vibrancy that befits a cartoon adaptation. The taut script, by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (who previously teamed up on CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL), delves deep into the relationships of siblings that often border between love and hate. Graeme Revell's smart score never overwhelms the action, which involves a lot of automatic weapons, and Oscar winner Frances McDormand and Oscar nominee Pete Postlethwaite feature in small roles.
Advantages: Good Sci Fi Action Thriller Disadvantages: Complex plot
...Sci-fi action thriller starring Charlize Theron as assassin AeonFlux. The plot is complex but understandable. This movie is based on the animated series and has attempted to stay true to its roots, helped by the involvement of Patrick Chung (the original series creator).
The sets are the usual mixture of computer graphics and real life, but as is usual these days you can't tell where one ends and the other starts! The city of Bregna is not your usual post apocalyptic scene of destruction but more of a paradise.
Charlize Theron gives Angelina Jolie more than a run for her money as the sultry heroine. Worth a watch? I think so. Maybe even two or three to draw out all the strands of the plot....

Advantages: GREAT stunts and special effects, Theron looking stunning! Disadvantages: Some of the characters lack the depth that would make them engaging
...fitting tight leather, who works for a rebel group trying to avenge a set of mysterious deaths. I do not wish to ruin the film for you lot so that's all I'm telling you!.
SPECIAL EFFECTS
The special effects are what make this film really stand out for me! There are some really beautiful and stunning scenes and the film starts with a brilliant one where we see the kick ass awesomeness of AeonFlux, who's assassin-like skills are demonstrated by her ability to catch a fly with her eyelashes!!
CHARACTERS
The main character of AeonFlux and one of her sidekicks is developed quite well and their dialogue together is actually quite good but the peripheral characters lack the depth which could have made this film quite special.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The special features on the DVD are not bad either! There are a fair few features, including...

Advantages: Special effects, unpresictable storyline Disadvantages: Weak story and poor acting
...My boyfriend always wants to rent a film for the evening whereas I would be happy watching whatever is on the tele. But last night he managed to talk me around, well what I really mean is I gave in. We went to the local rent shop and he spent ages umming and ahhing about what to get, while I wondered around dreaming of being at home curled up on the sofa watching awful tele. Eventually he picked out AeonFlux. I'm not really a film person so I had no idea what it was about let alone whether it would be any good.
Background - Before AeonFlux
In 2011 a terrible virus wipes out 99% of the world's population and only 5million people survive. A world renowned scientist develops a cure for this terrible disease and founds the city of Bregna. The world outside turns into uncontrollable wilderness and so a wall is built around Bregna to keep...
