Adam Simmons Quartet DVD

Advantages: Best. Animated. Comedy. Ever.
Disadvantages: Some jokes designed for American TV audience.

...... BATMAN!) does the voice of the semi-regularly appearing Mayor of Quahog who is, cunningly, also named Adam West. A lot of celebrity guests appear on the show also, with Gene Simmons of Kiss appearing a few times throughout the course of the show, along with numerous others. The jokes, as ever, sometimes border on the edge of offensive. The 15 rating is certainly deserved, with jokes about mental-retardation and drug use being the order of the day this season. Fortunately, these are never over-used and never used in spite. It's not a case of taking the mickey out of anyone, it's just a comedic view on things that are, in some cases, taboo. There's one scene, for example, where a patient is informed that he has AIDS by a barber-shop quartet who sing a hilarious yet wholly inappropriate song to the bewildered patient. Advantages: Funny and a great film for everyone
Disadvantages: none that i can think of

...I went to see Evan Almighty a few weeks ago now with a friend - we decided to go and see this film after rally enjoying bruce almighty and also liking the actor who plays Evan(Steve Carell) so thought it would be a good mix. The film is directed by Tom Shadyac who also directed the first film 'bruce almighty' and a variety of other films such as 'liar liar', 'patch adams' , bruce almighty' and the more recently 'i now pronounce you chuck and larry'. These are all good comedy films so with this in mind i was hoping the film would be goodand just as funny as the first film! Advantages: An excellent live performance of old and new material from a distinctive singer / songwriter and her group ably supported by a classical string quartet. This DVD is scheduled for release in the first week of September 2003.
Disadvantages: None

...Chrissie (vocals, guitar); Adam Seymour (vocals, guitar, harmonium); Andy Hobson (bass) and Martin Chambers (drums). They were joined by percussionist Mark “Wiff” Smith. The Duke Quartet is a renowned chamber ensemble comprising Louisa Fuller, Richard Koster (violins); John Metcalfe (viola) and Ivan McCready (cello). The review here is of the video recording which includes 18 tracks and lasts for 77 minutes. The concert was edited (to 14 tracks; not in the same order) and was released as a CD. Given this was a live show, my preference is for the video version (my review source is an NTSC laserdisc rather than the DVD**). It has much more of the immediacy and intimacy of sight and sound than can be engendered by auditory means alone. The running order of the video is as follows.
