I bought the Adam and Joe DVD as a present for my boyfriend knowing he'd enjoyed watching it back in the day (the show ran from 1996 to 2001). Although I enjoyed watching the series I wasn't expecting too much from the DVD as there were a few sketches that were always a bit hit or miss. However the DVD is a condensed version of the four series' of "The Adam and Joe show" that were originally shown on channel 4. It contains all the "best bits" and is to summarize in one word- HILARIOUS,
The show took the form of short sketches with links filmed in Adam and Joe's "bedsit" in London. 'Adam and Joe' are Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish, two friends who met at school and have been working together on comedy sketches and projects ever since.
As I mentioned the show is sketch based, and the DVD is a compilation of all the best sketches. The DVD comprises of some of the best of the different types of sketches, these were;
- Toymovies [Adam and Joe would re-create popular movies using only cuddly toys and cardboard sets! These toymovies would only last a couple of minutes and some of the best included Toytanic (Titanic), Toytrainspotting (Trainspotting) and The toy patient (The english patient).]
- Baaadad [Adam's father, Nigel Buxton, would review contemporary music videos and modern culture.
- Vinyl Justice [Adam and Joe (dressed as policemen) would raise celebrities houses and force them to dance to the shameful records they discovered in their record collections. Victims included Gary Numan and Ray Manzerak (of The Doors).]
- Star Wars TV [parodies of popular television shows using 1980's starwars figurines]
- Songs and Pranks [self explanatory?]
The sketches on the DVD have a running time of 142 mins, with an added 77 mins of extras! The extras include; - The Story of Adam and Joe (A 40 minute journey through Adam and Joe's home video and out-take archive) - Baaadad Revisited (Mr Buxton presents the highlights of his reviews) - The Best of Vinyl Justice (Highlights of the best raids) - Adam and Joe's World of Sound (30 minutes of songs, prank calls and "random audio nonsense") - Ken Korda: Making it in the Movies - Ken Korda: Making the Band (Ken -an idiotic media entrepreneur undertaking absurd pop cultural projects in the real world) - Play the toymovies from one menu - Commentaries
Despite having been involved with projects before and after The Adam and Joe Show, it is their most popular and well-known creation, and has certainly gained a cult following. If you enjoy comedy with a wicked twist like 'The Mighty Boosh' I would definitely recommend giving this DVD a chance.
The show is often described as one of the definitive pop culture parodies of recent times; and I can't put it any better than what is written on the back of the DVD...
"Adam and Joe satarise pop culture and modern life in a way you've never seen before. Unless you've seen it."
Advantages: It's Adam and Joe! Disadvantages: None that I can think of
of 2004 this fine best of DVD was released onto the market, the RRP was £19.99 but I picked it up for £3.99 more recently.
Whats the Adam and Joe Show DVD?
*********************************************
Well its basically the 4 series' of Adam and Joe condensed intto a couple of hours on 1 fine DVD, eacgh series is presented seperatly on 80's twinged menu screen, the teletext one springs instantly to mind. The DVD features many funny clips, including "Toyspotting" , Adam and Joe busking in Covent Garden, ending up with a street robbery, the fantastic "Bobby De Niro song", and the even better popping candy in the mouth with a can of Coke. It sounds pretty peurile but it's far better than that.
Any extras?

Yes a shed load, they are as follows;
1.THE STORY OF ADAM & JOE, this is a funny look back at Adam and Joe ...
Advantages: Lots of guest stars, Good episodes all christmas based.FUNNY! Disadvantages: Can only watch so much simpsons
on the dvd,very funny scenes with Gary coleman.
"She of little faith" Homer and bart make a rocket and fire it, only it crashes into the church and destroys it. To raise money for repairs the church sells advertising space.Which angers lisa so she decides to become a buddhist. Starring Richard Gere. Good episode, quite annoying because im not a big fan of lisa episodes, but still involves great bits from bart and homer.
DVD lasts about 110 mins, rated PG, lots of different languages and subtitles.
Special feature Mr burns finest moments, which is really funny if you like mr burns.
Guest stars such as Adam West,Linda Ronstadt,Alex Trebek,Clarence Clemons,Gary Coleman,Tim Robbins,Richard Gere and Joe Mantegna. Great dvd to add to collection, can be bought for such a low price is worth the money!
ALSO includes 4 bonus episodes! Comes in ...
Advantages: So many options, so many great tracks... just blinding Disadvantages: None. Really.
it in my original review, but slowly it's weened itself into my consciense as the finest song on 'The Invisible Band', and one which translates fantastically live, drums and bass and a thousand hearts all jumping in half way through, and captured perfectly on DVD. It really is wonderful.
And even then, the beauty of this DVD comes into its own when you consider the extras, mainly the outstandingly shot documentary filmed by Adam Buxton, of Adam and Joe fame. It's basically bits and pieces shot backstage, on the tourbus, and in hotel rooms, as the band are driven across the land during the festival season. And it even features Mr Healy having a dump in the nude. Seriously. The documentary can be watched on its own or interweaved into the gig, and obviously there is a track selector, so whether you have a worrying feacal fascination ...
