A computer game heroine

Advantages: The sexy Angelina Jolie
Disadvantages: Weak story

Fans of the Lara Croft computer game were eagerly anticipating the release of the film adaptation, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. It is directed by Simon West and was released in 2001. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is about an archeologist/tomb raider, Lara croft (Angelina Jolie), who belongs to a wealthy British aristocratic family. She spends most of her time travelling the world searching for ancient artefacts, using her expert knowledge and combat skills ...
...a secret society, called the Illuminati in their search for pieces of a mysterious device which when combined, during a rare alignment of planets, will give the owner unlimited power. Croft must find and destroy the device before the evil Illuminati can use it for their own nefarious purposes. This is an enjoyable film with a decent story which is a bit weak in places. It is very similar to the Indiana Jones films in terns of style and plot, but ...

Disadvantages: Charecters a bit annoying

However, Ben's family have never found the treasure. Skip forward 30 years and we see Ben (played by Nicolas Cage) helped by Ian (played by Sean Bean) finding a ship ...
...to the treasure is on the back of one of the most secure pieces of paper in the world, The Declaration of Independence. Ian's greed makes him abandon Ben and he resolves to steal The Declaration. Diamond review  Down By The River...

Advantages: Great performances, genuine suspense, intelligent
Disadvantages: not to everyones taste, uncomfortable, maybe too ponderous for action junkies

...PLOT '' Deliverance concerns a group of four middle class and middle-aged friends who meet to relax away from their jobs, their careers and their daily rituals. Lewis (Burt Reynolds) is the natural leader of the group, confident in his own abilities and with a taste for adventure. He has persuaded the other three to canoe down the Cahulawassee river, because it is the last chance to explore a part of unspoiled America before a dam is ...
...the power of this story. Deliverance does look dated in some senses but that is actually very appropriate considering the themes. A word or two of warning. This film requires patience - it is not a story where action replaces character. Furthermore, there is a rape scene which is not particularly pleasant viewing (of course) but it is no more graphic than that in 'Pulp Fiction' - if you can stomach that then you will be fine with this. Graphic representation ...

Did you leave a cigarette burning?

Advantages: Best disaster movie of the last century
Disadvantages: Some very cheesy lines

It's the launch party for the newly constructed, 138 storey skyscraper in the centre of San Francisco, supposedly the world's tallest skyscraper. With loads of prominent dignitaries and celebrities invited to the gala celebration, it is going to be a night to remember as they party on the 135th floor. After some wring short circuits in one of the systems, architect Doug Roberts believes that the skyscraper has not been built to his stringent specifications ...
...attempt to bring the development in under budget. As the party gets into full swing, a fire breaks out on the 81st floor, caused by more dodgy wiring, and the fire service are called. The fire quickly spreads and although the firemen do their best to stop it, they are pretty helpless 81 floors above the ground. As more fires start appearing, the party goers find themselves trapped and helpless in the penthouse. Now it's up to the chief of the fire ...

Your Mission, Should You Accept It - Is To Read This Review!

Advantages: Fast pacy spy adventure, with great music and some equally great stunts.
Disadvantages: Stunts a bit far fetched - but you expect that with this sort of film.

Mission Impossible (1996) We just felt in the mood for an older movie, but an excellent film all the same to watch as a family, as pickings are a bit slim at the moment. My children picked it for us to watch as a family. What's it all about? Of course the film is based upon the same set up used in the television series of the same name. Having said this, I have not watched any of the original series as this was before my time. The film ...
...given the task of going to Prague to stop a top secret list of agents, passing into the hands of traitors. The group are told to walk away if the mission fails and that their bosses will not admit to knowing them if they are captured. The mission does go awry and it seems that all of the agents are killed, all except for Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). Ethan makes arrangements to meet his superiors in a restaurant and it is here that Ethan realises that ...
