You Wanted Me, Here I Am

Advantages: An excellent Screenplay, brilliant performances and a very enjoyable movie
Disadvantages: Other than the sad death of Heath Ledger none

Having established himself as the protector of Gotham City, Batman sets out with the help of the District Attorney Harvey Dent and Police Lieutenant Jim Gordon to bring down the largest Criminal organisations. Their plans take a bit of a diversion though when a new mastermind takes control of Gotham's crime syndicate. The Joker demands that Batman unmask himself and sets off on a killing spree to try and ensure it happens. The real question for the ...
...been over a year since the follow up to Batman Begins was released but yesterday rather than head to the cinema we decided to finally watch it. Having heard nothing but good things about it and loving the previous film it seemed almost unbelievable that we hadn't watched it yet. Where Batman Begins had in my opinion taken the Batman films to a new level I was hoping that The Dark Knight would carry on this progression and I certainly wasn't disappointed. ...

Who said romance was dead?

Advantages: Original, fast paced, a multitude of stars
Disadvantages: Too violent, swearing

True Romance is a fantastic film which boasts an all-star cast including the likes of Christopher Walken, Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman amongst others and the film is filled with such colourful characters and indeed dialogue which provides a somewhat memorable movie. The plot is that Chrisitan Slater is an affable and well-meaning comic book clerk who goes out on a date with a hooker, played by Patricia Arquette, and they both fall ...
...chemistry between the two stars in the film, and they set out on a wild road trip after Slater kills Drexyl, Arquette's former pimp and coming into possession of some narcotics owned by the Mob. Oldman hams it superbly as the somewhat larger than life and colourful pimp and rarely has there been such a character in a film who is so obnoxious, so unbelievably vile with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever that we cannot help but cheer when he meets ...

Frequently imitated, never out-classed

Advantages: Fantastic lead performance from Gary Oldman, the ORIGINAL movie about football hooliganism.
Disadvantages: Single disk, fullscreen presentation, the Region 1 Alan Clarke boxset is a better buy for British Film enthusiasts, might make some uncomfortable viewing.

...his Frodo feet and caught The English Disease to a slick Kasabian soundtrack in GREEN STREET, Alan Clarke (the architect of SCUM, MADE IN BRITAIN and RITA, SUE AND BOB TOO) directed THE FIRM in 1988 for BBC television. The result is a film that's stripped down, no gloss, uncompromising and wears its made-for-TV-drama origins with pride. The story itself is simple enough, because it's been copied enough - two rival football firms (groups of hooligans ...
...in a mindless turf war. The 'prize' is the better firm gets exclusive, unchallenged 'rights' to initiate violence during the European Football Championship. What makes this film interesting is most movies portray violence as a means to an end - THE FIRM inverts this principle and introduces the concept of violence as a means to more violence. That violence is a drug and once you've taken one hit you need another and another and, like all addictions, ...
