Who said romance was dead?
Review of True Romance (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by
Boothegoose
Advantages: Original, fast paced, a multitude of stars
Disadvantages: Too violent, swearing
True Romance is a fantastic film which boasts an all-star cast including the likes of Christopher Walken, Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman amongst others and the film is filled with such colourful characters and indeed dialogue which provides a somewhat memorable movie. The plot is that Chrisitan Slater is an affable and well-meaning comic book clerk who goes out on a date with a hooker, played by Patricia Arquette, and they both fall ... ...chemistry between the two stars in the film, and they set out on a wild road trip after Slater kills Drexyl, Arquette's former pimp and coming into possession of some narcotics owned by the Mob. Oldman hams it superbly as the somewhat larger than life and colourful pimp and rarely has there been such a character in a film who is so obnoxious, so unbelievably vile with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever that we cannot help but cheer when he meets ...

Not Exactly Valentine's Day
Review of True Romance (Director's Cut) (Special Edition) by
BZ2886
Advantages: A-list ensemble cast, tarantino script, great action scenes
Disadvantages: Occassionally over-graphic
This film from 1993, directed by Tony Scott (previous works such as 'Top Gun' and Crimson Tide') and written by the universally known Quentin Tarantino.
It is a tension filled and action packed movie with some really poignant and occasionally chilling sequences.
The story centres around Clarence Worley (Christian Slater of 'Murder in the First' and 'Broken Arrow') a comic book store employee with a passion for Sonny Cheeba kung-fu movies and Elvis ... ...marathon in a cinema. Here he meets Alabama (Patricia Arquette of Stigmata.) She is a happy, young southern girl and they immediately hit it off. After the inevitable night-time events, Clarence awakes to find Alabama crying and she confesses she is a call girl hired by Clarence's boss as a birthday present. As she's crying obviously, the two already mean more than that to each other and are married the next morning. This is only the first five minutes ...

True Brilliance
Review of True Romance DVD by
Phelthew
Advantages: Lots of great actors. Great story
Disadvantages: Oldman's part. QT version would have been better
...to remember. Yes, well in True Romance we have quite a large cast of well known actors and if you watch it with my family the Yer manning is beyond excessive. Anyway True Romance is a 1993 film written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott (the lesser of the Scott brothers). It tells the story of Clarence Worley (played by Christian Slater and I know he's an idiot just bear with me). Clarence is a pretty ordinary man though a bit of a loner. ... ...so apparent that the screenplay is by Tarantino from the dialogue. Clarence is talking to a girl in a bar about how he thinks Elvis is prettier than most women and if he had to do a man it would be Elvis. He then goes to the cinema to watch three Kung Fu movies as is his birthday tradition when he meets the beautiful Alabama (Patricia Arquette). They hit it off and he takes out and takes her home. However, when ever Clarence finds Alabama crying ...

Right on Target
Review of Ultimate Force - Series 2 (Wide Screen) by
MI9to5
Advantages: Great characters
Disadvantages: -
...seeing the first series of Ultimate Force I eagerly awaited the release of Series 2 and I have to say that it didn't fail to deliver.
Like the first series, this series is again based around 'red troop' a troop of SAS soldiers. In terms of characters very few changes have been made Alex Leonard who left at the end of the first series is replaced by the cocky and loud-mouthed Louis Hoffman (who is first seen in Series 1 Episode 3) and BOX, whose ... ...Akhurst), who provides a love interest for Red Troop's charismatic Staff Sergeant Henno Garvie (Ross Kemp).
This series is more explosive than the last on many levels with more bullets flying and more people falling especially in the opening episode where Red Troop find themselves in a blue on blue situation on a ship docked in Southampton and have to come to terms with the fact that it isn't only those on the other side that are falling. Other ...

Rambo IV - Film Only
Review of Rambo DVD by
DavidJay
Advantages: Ridiculously exciting, OTT extravaganza
Disadvantages: Morally disgusting
...his earlier Rocky Balboa. However, Rambo IV is still a ridiculously exciting, if politically disgusting, high-octane, uber-violent romp. Easily the equal of many of the fiercest horror films of recent times in terms of sheer gore and depravity - necks are ripped open, children are flung left and right, heads explode, innards spill to the dirt - the picture is considerably harsher than its predecessors. It is, though, just as moronic as the previous ... ...Religious, Cultural and Military Might. Rambo IV does nothing to reverse this trend, with Stallone being very open about the film's Christian values (a shame-faced attempt to ape Mel Gibson's success with similar audiences) and the piece as a whole stands as a justification for any amount of imperialist rampaging. That said - nauseating and barbaric it may be, but, much like the final third of Mark L. Lester's 1985 Commando, it's impossible not to ...
