Say hello to my little friend
Advantages: A classic gangster movie with brilliant acting Disadvantages: A little laughable at the old fashioned parts in places
...for only one day - Scarface was shown yesterday and, as neither my husband nor myself have ever seen it and everyone else seems to think it is a brilliant film, we decided to see it with our handy Unlimited Cineworld cards. I'd heard that the film was meant to be very violent and considering it's an 18 certificate I thought it must be. However, I didn't really find it very violent at all to be honest. There was a lot of people being shot and quite ... ...violence. There were moments were I thought something really horrible was going to happen, such as near the beginning where a chainsaw was brought out, but we didn't actually see anything apart from a splattering of blood - not that I particularly wanted to see someone's arm being chopped off with a chainsaw, but I felt that there wasn't really much violence at all. There wasn't too much swearing in it either so I can't really see why it was certified ...

No Challenge for Sharpe
Advantages: Superbly shot, great casting Disadvantages: none really!
I have to admit, i was absolutely gutted when this came out. I'd just spent a small fortune on the boxset.
On the other hand, I was chuffed to bits, sharpe was back!
It'd been a long time since Sean Bean had donned that uniform, and it shows - though it fits in perfectly with the storyline.
The storyline is loosely based on the book "Sharpes Fortress" - the last of the Sharpe in India series. In Challenge, Sharpe returns to India as a retired ... ...gets himself involved with the Incompetent Simmerson (the most hated of sharpes enemies!) and ends up posing as a redcoat deserter, to rescue the ailing generals daughter and save the day - though things go terribly wrong when a captured sargeant gives Sharpe and Harper away - and as always with Sharpe, death, mass explosions and screaming charges ensue!
Despite the fact that over a decade had passed between waterloo and challenge, Sean Bean and ...

Great Idea, Mediocre Movie...
Advantages: It tries really hard to be a tense techno-thriller... Disadvantages: ... but fails, mainly through poor editing and production style.
...I'm Chain Reaction starts off with an intriguing premise and goes downhill from there, despite trying really hard to be a tense techno-thriller. In The initial idea, of a new power-source being developed from water (we're not talking traditional hydro-power here though) - which supposedly has the capacity to use the hydrogen in small glass of water to power the whole city of Chicago for weeks -is brilliant. The idea of the rich and powerful oil companies ... ...it's not bad. Chain There's a brain behind this film (somewhat a rarity for this genre), but unfortunately it's been rather lost in the translation. It's almost as though someone said, "Hey, here's a brilliant idea for a film, let's turn it into a mediocre movie" - and lo! - it became so. It's certainly not a terrible film - watching it didn't leave me feeling that part of my life had been stolen - just that I hadn't made a profit on what time I'd ...

Not all that Grimm
Advantages: The visuals Disadvantages: The acting isn't great
...in a film finally!) playing the brothers Grimm in a film that uses ideas from their many stories and fairy tales to bind a common theme. The 2 brothers are con-men and use folk tales to hoodwink stupid villagers out of their money for almost no work on their part. This is at least until they are nearly caught then have to face a real fairy tale! They are assisted by Mackenzie Crook (mostly known for The Office in the UK) and the other chap whose ... ...brilliant. Steal Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, The ginger bread man, Snow White, Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin, and then mix them all together. Watch it. Love it then watch it some more. This is a film adults and kids will enjoy many times. (this review also appears on dooyoo) ...

No man is left behind
Advantages: Great mindless action film Disadvantages: Unbelievable in places
...release of the all action Navy Seals, a film with a few choice names and some testosterone filled stunts and special effects as it follows the lives of a Navy Seal team. Director Lewis Teague teamed up with former Navy SEAL and writer of the screenplay Chuck Pfarrer to produce a high octane action film of good quality.
The Plot
Whilst on a retrieval mission involving hostages, a group of Navy SEALs suspect a group of terrorists have come into possession ... ...and destroy them before they can be used to destroy anyone or anything. The SEALs must use all their training to achieve this goal and essentially thwart the terrorists' plans.
The Cast and Performances
Charlie Sheen takes joint top billing as Lieutenant Dale Hawkins here, sharing the top spot with Michael Biehn as Lieutenant James Curran. Curran is the SEAL leader, but the majority of the focus does shift towards Sheen, and the pair of actors ...
