Universally Unappealing
Review of Universal Soldier DVD by wampyrii

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...occasional cheesy action move sequel. Universal Soldier was one of the better ones, which also starred one of Hollywood’s B-list Arnie stand-ins Dolph Lundgren, so naturally, Hollywood being what it is, a few years later Universal Soldier 2 made an appearance - twice as cheesy, half as good... For those who managed to skilfully avoid the original Universal Soldier movie the concept revolved around a new plan to save hundreds of American lives by ...
...a movie like this, but Universal Soldier 2 is quite a painful example of the cheesy B-movie genre. I’m somewhat at a loss as to where to begin in all honesty, it really is quite atrocious on so many counts. It starts off well, with explosions, a high speed water chase, bulging biceps, gratuitous use of heaving bosoms, a huge bad guy and cheesy lines a-plenty - enough to give it a 3 star rating for this kind of movie anyway. Then it all goes wrong ... Read review

Makes me feel Patriotic
Review of The Patriot (Collector's Edition) by B_O_M_B_A

Advantages: Good historical links and great acting
Disadvantages: Not for younger viewers.

The film tells the story of Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson), a war veteran who has settled down for a life with his family of 5 children, unfortunately his wife passed away and now he devotes his life to protecting those who he loves. The British are invading under General Cornwallis and threaten to destroy all that is dear to Benjamin, not just his country, more importantly, his family. As much as Benjamin fights the cause of going to war with the ...
...into it, largely due to the fact his son Gabriel (Heath ledger) has decided to join the army to follow in his fathers footsteps. The war eventually arrives at Benjamin's doorstep, and when one of his sons is killed by an unruly lieutenant Martin realises he must fight to rid the British from his land. Him and Gabriel ride to find all the support they can from the local villages and form a Militia, Martin realises an open plain battle is not the ... Read review

The Fugitive Blue Ray dvd
Review of The Fugitive DVD by jellybean21

Advantages: The audio is very good
Disadvantages: Video is very disappointing

...oscar for his role as the deputy and Harrison Ford is brilliant as Dr Kimble. It's a fast paced, intelligent film which keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. Unfortunately I was quite disappointed in this blue ray presentation. The picture quality is dull and the colours are not as crisp as I expected. Some of the darker scenes are impoved but still look a bit grainy, The audio is quite good and an improvement on the original dvd which ... Read review

Transformers: The Movie (Ultimate Edition)
Review of Transformers - The Movie (Ultimate Edition) by Itstar77

Advantages: Enjoyable Nostalgia
Disadvantages: No Extras

...at the height of the Transformers popularity. If you grew up in the 80s and were a Transformers fan this film should bring back memories. When it was released in cinemas, critics dismissed the film as a feature-length toy advert. I think that's a bit unfair though. While it is clear that the main purpose of the film was to introduce a new wave of Transformer toys, the story is entertaining and the quality of the animation is impressive. The film ...
...Perhaps your enjoyment of the film depends on whether you were a small child who enjoyed the TV series and cared about the characters or not. Plus how can you not love the extremely 80s soundtrack? As for the DVD itself, the picture has been digitally remastered and displayed in widescreen format and the sound is presented in 5.1 Dolby digital. To my eyes the film has never looked or sounded better. The film was always intended to be screened in ... Read review

Superhero or not?
Review of Hancock DVD by peteandcesca

Advantages: Fun, different to other superhero movies
Disadvantages: Maybe more explaining of the characters

...had seen the trailers for Hancock many times on the TV prior to it's release and so knew we would be going to see this at some point. We were hoping it looked as good as the trailers made it seem as it came across from the trailers as a bit of a different superhero movie. The plot - The film follows Hancock who has all the usual superhero powers such as being able to fly, speed and super strength. He goes about capturing criminals and helping the ...
...Jason Bateman, is saved by Hancock and being a PR executive he wants to help to change his image so that people start to appreciate him for all he does. The way he wants to do this is by getting Hancock to agree to do the stint in prison and he reckons once Hancock is unable to help out during a panic that the public will start to realise how much he does and how they should appreciate him instead of hating him. Will it really work? Cast - The cast ... Read review
