Advantages: Historically accurate with terrific battle scenes.
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of dvd extras.

Sharpe is based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell. He is a young infantry soldier in the napoleonic war who gets raised from the ranks by the Duke of Wellington after saving his life. There are 14 dvd's in the box set but there are very few extras. The programme is about the troubles and the battles he faces as a officer raised from the ranks the series concludes with the battle of waterloo. ...is the first chronological film, Sharpe's Rifles is not the first chronological novel, which would be Sharpe's Tiger when he starts as a private, but the events described in that book are placed much later in the TV show.
