Doo You See A Zulu?
Advantages: Captivating, one of the best films ever made. Disadvantages: None whatsoever.
Zulu has to be one of my favourite films of all time.
It was released in 1964 through Paramount Pictures by Diamond Films - a company set up by the well established actor Stanley Baker, who was looking to move more into the directing field.
The film was directed by Cy Endfield, and co-produced by both Baker and Endfield, each with strong links to the story-line. Endfield was born in South Africa, where the events covered by the film took place, ... ...Zulu's is played by the Zulu Chief himself, Chief Buthelezi, and obviously the collaberation brings a real touch of authenticity to the Zulu's in this film and ensures that it is a real depiction of how the Zulu fighting strategies were carried out.
Otto Witt - Jack Hawkins. He plays a cameo performance as the Swedish missionary but I found his role a little annoying and lack lustre up until his departure from the mission. Steaming drunk, he shounts ...

Cypher so good
Advantages: Intelligent, surprising and unsual Disadvantages: May lack lasting appeal
After seeing this film I've recommended it to several friends (off-line in the real world) as being an intelligent cross between James Bond and the Matrix. The movie starts with the unremarkable Morgan Sullivan (Jeremy Northam) being signed up as an industrial spy and assigned his undercover identity as Jack Thursby. His surprisingly easy job is to attend and record (by use of a transmitter pen) a series of extremely tedious business lectures across ... ...new alter ego away from his boring married life and even develops a taste for scotch and smoking. At this point you think it may just be a movie about a normal guy going through a mid-life crisis and living vicariously as Jack Thursby but the rabbit hole goes much deeper than this. Enter the mysterious and exciting Rita Foster (Lucy Liu) who piece by piece starts to uncover what's really going on behind the scenes and the reason for the onset of ...

Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang
Advantages: see review Disadvantages: see review
...Bang! Well thats the plot dealt with.
Want more info? Hmmm...well ok, let me try to think...Well we have a movie directed by and starring Clint Eastwood along with the woman in his life at the time Sandra Locke. Clint plays a washed up Phoenix cop who looks like he has been sleeping in the same clothes for about a month and who has a drink problem. He opens the door of his car and out pours a stream of bottles, cans etc. Of course, this means that ... ...witness across country to the courthouse in which she is to testify. This witness is Sandra Locke, a prostitute(why does clint always have his wives girlfriends etc. cast as hookers, or molested in some way...hmm) who has more intelligence in her handbag than our dumbass hero has in his whole body. Everyone is out to get them but dear old Clint's character can't see this...well not until the first preposterous action scene. Ths movie excells in presposterous ...

Modern classic.
Advantages: Rousing action sequences, excellent acting, beautiful score, fast paced, gorgeous cineamtography. Disadvantages: Graphic violence may put some off.
...to old school swords-and-sandals flicks. Gladiator is one of those rare films where all the relevant boxes are ticked: riveting action sequences, strong lead, slimy villain, wonderful supporting cast, classy period detail, gorgeous cinematography, perfect SFX, moving score and just a downright thrilling tale of a man wronged. Russell Crowe is tremendous in the role and it has rightfully made him one of cinema's biggest stars and the late Richard ... ...Ridley Scott is a master of visuals and here was the perfect opportunity in recreating a new (old) world - much in the way he does with Blade Runner he fills the screen with details that demand repeat viewings. Meanwhile the script is a surprisingly moving tale which makes the revenge all the more sweet. A modern classic. ...

Say hello to my little friend
Advantages: A classic gangster movie with brilliant acting Disadvantages: A little laughable at the old fashioned parts in places
...for only one day - Scarface was shown yesterday and, as neither my husband nor myself have ever seen it and everyone else seems to think it is a brilliant film, we decided to see it with our handy Unlimited Cineworld cards. I'd heard that the film was meant to be very violent and considering it's an 18 certificate I thought it must be. However, I didn't really find it very violent at all to be honest. There was a lot of people being shot and quite ... ...violence. There were moments were I thought something really horrible was going to happen, such as near the beginning where a chainsaw was brought out, but we didn't actually see anything apart from a splattering of blood - not that I particularly wanted to see someone's arm being chopped off with a chainsaw, but I felt that there wasn't really much violence at all. There wasn't too much swearing in it either so I can't really see why it was certified ...
