God this is rubbish!

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Awful adaptation of a classic Alan Moore Comic book

I will begin the review with brutal honesty, if this film were a bird it would be a massively expensive wrapped turkey, if it were a football team it would be Newcastle United (no offence to Toon fans) and if it were a comic book it would be a million times better than this....oh it was!! The League of Extraordinary Gentleman is based on Alan Moore's brilliantly imaginative graphic novel of the same name, the premise of the film should lend itself ...
...an alternate universe, the Fantom is trying to start a World War by manipulating World powers into believing others are plotting and acting against them causing an air of fear and oppression, led by the heroic Alan Quatermain a team of literary hero's of the era must stop the Fantom and save the world, putting aside their own rivalries and idiocyncracies in the process. The film follows Alan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Mina Harker, The Invisible Man, ...

'Sheer Cinematic History'

Advantages: Sean Connery as James Bond! Aston Martin DB5 introduced
Disadvantages: Aston Martin crashes into a wall ouch!

...to keep an eye on Goldfinger the villain of the piece, getting entangled in his business and his women. This entanglement takes him to different points in the world and gets him into many dangerous circumstances. The famous Lazer beam sequence resounds in the memories of people today. THE CAR: When I first saw this film I think I was about 12 and what I liked about this film was the car chase. Never before in cinema history had anyone really seen ...
...interaction between Connery's Bond and Goldfinger they appear to seem friendly initially I think as they try to scope each other out. But Bond's subtle arrogance ignites Goldfinger's firey temper as he refuses to go away. He is a quieter villain in my opinion but nevertheless evil, clearly a businessman obsessed with gold. JAMES BOND: What is great about Sean Connery's Bond is he is able to pull of the coolness and suaveness without over doing ...

Its not 'mothers' day, is it?

Advantages: retains some of the originals quirkiness
Disadvantages: cut too much

...strange weather around London & the Ministry (a sort of MI5 establishment) headed by Mother (a codename) has been tasked by the PM to find out what is going on. In steps Steed, sort of a 007 character who manages to get by without a gun, just a bullet proof waistcoat, bowler hat & sword concealed in an umbrella. They think that the adverse weather conditions are related to a government project called Prospero so a meeting is arranged with the former ...
...Prospero is a bit like the American star Wars project in so much as there is an umbrella (weather puns throughout the film) covering the country to protect from attack which uses lighting & tornadoes to block missiles. She thinks that the mostly likely person to investigate is Sir August De Wintyr disgraced head of the project & leader of BROLLY (British Royal Organisation for Lasting Liquid Years). He seems to have lost the plot a bit since he thinks ...

Connery lives twice again after this

Advantages: Great atmospheric and artistic Bond film
Disadvantages: Nothing really

...in 1967 with this offering, You Only Live Twice, once again starring the charismatic Sean Connery, but with Lewis Gilbert in the director's chair for this one. The Plot With the Cold War ever intense, criminal organisation S.P.E.C.T.R.E. tries another tack. American and Russian spacecraft have disappeared in outer space, and they are blaming each other. Anxious to avoid all out war, Bond is dispatched to Japan to seek out the perpetrators. This ...
...enter into a relationship. You Only Live Twice was filmed almost entirely on location in Japan, and the filming is done marvellously, capturing the beauty of the countryside and the mountains and castles. The Japanese music employed in the film also sets the scene and the mood in all sequences. The acting and directing is also done very well, and I found myself enjoying this film from an angle different to that of a Bond film, more from a critical ...

Who Wants to Live Forever?

Advantages: Excellent story and acting, amazing soundtrack
Disadvantages: Saw a wire in one of the end scenes!

I have seen bits of this film over the years and from what I saw it looked quite complicated to follow as it goes from the 1980’s back to the 16 century and it looked quite confusing but after sitting and watching it all in one go I found it was the opposite and I did actually enjoy the story. Connor MacLeod was born in 1518 in the highland and when his village goes to battle he comes up against The Krugan, he means nothing to Connor but the Krugan ...
...that there must be only one. Back in the present, 1985, Connor is watching a wrestling match when he suddenly gets up to leave and whilst walking across the car park he comes face to face with a man who tried to decapitate him, Connor reveals his sword and the fight ends up with the other man being decapitated. We then move back to the 16th Century where Connor receives a visit from Juan, played by Sean Connery, who tells him that he is Immortal ...
