The Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring (Extended Version) by danfellowes

Advantages: Great cinematics, special effects, acting, location, extras
Disadvantages: none

■The Book■ The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is the first in the trilogy of films by director Peter Jackson taken from the 1930-40s novels by J.R.R.Tolkien. The books were published between 1937 and 1949. The Fellowship of the Ring was released in 1937. The story loosely follows on from an earlier work by Tolkien, 'The Hobbit'. This is a tale of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, going on an adventure across Middle Earth and finding ...
...just the Shire. Well now Bilbo has grown old, gracefully it may be said, and due to his adventure is outcasted a little by his fellow Shire-folk. Well 'The Fellowship of the Ring' is the turn of Frodo Baggins, Bilbo's nephew who lives with him in Bag End. The story of the books is that Bilbo while on his travels around Middle Earth with the wise wizard Gandalf the Grey, he picked up a strange artifact: A ring. A ring he managed to win in a game ... out of the jungle and into the city
Review of Jumanji (Wide Screen) by fightstarter

Advantages: magical family film
Disadvantages: a little too magical

...special effects have been made. JUMANJI would be one of those movies. It's light on plot, character development and heavy on adventure and computer generated special effects. There are definitely better movies out there, but it does move along quickly despite the fact it will make you roll your eyes every now and again. Robin Williams is one heck of a talented actor and comedian. I enjoy him in most of his films but here he turns out one of his more ...
...him a wealthy man the past couple of decades. Everyone else does their job. I think I would've liked this movie a lot more if I were in my pre-teen years. Of course, these days, CGI is in virtually every PG movie and I'm not so sure this movie or these effects would past the test today. It's hard to say whether or not this is a good or bad movie because it's one of those you forget about right after you see it. However, the younger audience should ... Read review

Hobbitses and preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeecious...
Review of The Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers (Special Extended Edition)(Collector's Gift Set) by CaptainDisaster

Advantages: Excellent film, worthwhile extras
Disadvantages: A bit gruesome in places

The Two Towers follows the story started in Fellowship of the Ring, where a party of nine set out from Rivendell to take a ring of power back to the fires where it was forged to destroy it. Its owner is now seeking that ring, and if it gets it, the whole of Middle Earth is doomed. So that party set out, made up of representatives of all the free races of Middle Earth - Hobbits, Men, Elves, and Dwarves, guided by a Wizard. Without going into too much ...
...lost and two captured. The Two Towers then is initially split into three narratives - the captured Hobbits, the three pursuing their captors, and the two Hobbits still trying to get the ring to Mount Doom. They get the feeling that they are being watched, however - soon they will meet one of the strangest creatures alive on Middle Earth. (Incidentally, if you haven't seen the films or read the books and are wondering what a Hobbit actually is, ... Read review

Extra! Extra! Big ape falls for bird!
Review of King Kong (Deluxe Extended Edition) by david_1967

Advantages: Wonderful special effects and over six hours of extras
Disadvantages: Disc 1 probably obsolete apart from extras

...depicting the whole 'making of King Kong' thing and numerous conceptual designs. All in all the set has over SIX hours of bonus features. Considering the film lasts 3 hrs and 12 mins and has a commentary you are looking at over twelve hours of King Kong fun. Also, did you know that the insect scene was going to be in the original film but due to constraints was never included? Learn this and more! The acting in the film is not the greatest but I ...
...emotions associated with the golden days of cinema and actually hits the spot quite accurately. Jack Black is a master at this which, seeing as this seems to be the only characteristic he ever plays, suits him to a tee. And it is in the bonus features that you can really begin to imagine the scale of the project the team undertook. The Empire State is an accurate recreation of the 1930's model, the scene of New York spread out below as Kong tries ... Read review
