Worth Buying
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by wardy-91

Advantages: Great addition and summary to the Rocky series
Disadvantages: Sly stallone's a bit too old for it.

...to the great series that Rocky was. It is not the best Rocky film out of the 6 that were made but it is definately up there with them. The boxing preview thing is a bit far fetched but it still works well with the plot. I think sly stalone is a bit past him time now as well. That is probably the only downside in the plot, is that hes aging rapidly yet still is fighting against boxers in their twenties. The director has done a good job of choosing ... Read review

Be a thinker not a stinker. (Apollo Creed)
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by Osaitfc

Advantages: Escapism
Disadvantages: Perhaps only rocky fans will get the cheese.

...But for some reason the Rocky saga sparked endless banter and cheesy quotes while partaking in beer, bitter and wine. There's something about these films which capture the imagination and stir the adrenaline in your body while watching the fighting set pieces and training montages. Ok Rocky 5 was a disaster (other than the street fight) but the other four films offer there own twists to the Rocky hall of fame. So why make a 6th, i believe it's to ...
...lasted decades. Also in Rocky Balboa we see the series coming full circle and Rocky is once again the Ultimate Underdog. Ok he's 60 but i thought the film played on the age thing brilliantly, they didn't try to hide it, but, instead highlighted it as far-fetched and an unlikely story. Ultimately we're left with a great end chapter in a series that has captured the imagination of many. A well crafted farewell, which bows out with a fantastic fighting ... Read review

Rocky Proves He Ain't No Bum
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by dreamscancometrue

Advantages: super entertainmet
Disadvantages: non

Rocky Balboa. My Husband is a big fan if the Rocky movies, and if I'm honest I quite like them also, we recently were able to hire this DVD from our on-line library and glad we did. We hated the last Rocky movie with the so called Tommy Gun trained by Rocky himself and thought it would have been better finished with him training his son at an older age than portrayed, and left at that. But this new movie does actually do a great job of bringing ...
...the meat packing factory. Rocky Junior, is trying not to live in the shadow of his fathers fame, and make his own way in the business world. And sadly, no more Adrianne, Rocky's true love and wife, has been taken from him by illness, just as they where about to start their twightlight years together. Every day to Rocky is just another day, his life as become mundane and boring, but after spending a day grieving on the anniversary of Adrianne's ... Read review

Right on Target
Review of Ultimate Force - Series 2 (Wide Screen) by MI9to5

Advantages: Great characters
Disadvantages: -

...seeing the first series of Ultimate Force I eagerly awaited the release of Series 2 and I have to say that it didn't fail to deliver. Like the first series, this series is again based around 'red troop' a troop of SAS soldiers. In terms of characters very few changes have been made Alex Leonard who left at the end of the first series is replaced by the cocky and loud-mouthed Louis Hoffman (who is first seen in Series 1 Episode 3) and BOX, whose ...
...Akhurst), who provides a love interest for Red Troop's charismatic Staff Sergeant Henno Garvie (Ross Kemp). This series is more explosive than the last on many levels with more bullets flying and more people falling especially in the opening episode where Red Troop find themselves in a blue on blue situation on a ship docked in Southampton and have to come to terms with the fact that it isn't only those on the other side that are falling. Other ... Read review

Rambo IV - Film Only
Review of Rambo DVD by DavidJay

Advantages: Ridiculously exciting, OTT extravaganza
Disadvantages: Morally disgusting

...his earlier Rocky Balboa. However, Rambo IV is still a ridiculously exciting, if politically disgusting, high-octane, uber-violent romp. Easily the equal of many of the fiercest horror films of recent times in terms of sheer gore and depravity - necks are ripped open, children are flung left and right, heads explode, innards spill to the dirt - the picture is considerably harsher than its predecessors. It is, though, just as moronic as the previous ...
...Religious, Cultural and Military Might. Rambo IV does nothing to reverse this trend, with Stallone being very open about the film's Christian values (a shame-faced attempt to ape Mel Gibson's success with similar audiences) and the piece as a whole stands as a justification for any amount of imperialist rampaging. That said - nauseating and barbaric it may be, but, much like the final third of Mark L. Lester's 1985 Commando, it's impossible not to ... Read review
