Sharpe is based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell. He is a young infantry soldier in the napoleonic war who gets raised from the ranks by the Duke of Wellington after saving his life. ...is the first chronological film, Sharpe's Rifles is not the first chronological novel, which would be Sharpe's Tiger when he starts as a private, but the events described in that book are placed much later in the TV show. I haven't read the book this DVD is taken from but I have however seen most if not all of the Sharpe series on the Television and I also have a few of the full length VHS tapes. Its the same old subject matter to any great film, book or series, an action hero who is not perfect but always manages to get the girl in end.
