The Bear is one of my husbands favourite films and he has been trying to get it on DVD for a very long time so I decided I would treat him for when he returned home from Afghan. Akira was the first ever anime film I bought, that is to say I had already seen some without buying, so I wouldn't consider myself inexperienced. It's true that the hype surrounding this film in the anime world is massive, maybe too big for the film to match up to. ...only just watched the first Die Hard, but I really did not think it was my type of film....oh how wrong I was. Thbe complexity behind the story in this film is fantastic. Bruce Willis plays John McClane, an exceedingly credible cocky cop! He goes to meet his estranged wife at her office party and their is a hold up, he manages to hide and avoid being taken to the main area where everyone is being held. ...best actors for this era. He is smooth, slimy and his words purr in a way that makes your hair stand up on end! From McCane's freedom on the many many floors he has at his disposal he manages to contact the police, who send a single polliceman to survey the scene. ...a damn lot better than Red Sonja I can tell you that much. It is a classic example of what can happen if you dont get the right mix between action and comedy. The dvd is not one I would recommend. Aside from the actual film, there is a diabolical making of featurette with Arnie and Belushi both saying how talented each other are and how great the film is.
