Youngblood - I'm gonna carve you up Racki!
Review of Youngblood DVD by etala

Advantages: Classic 80's fodder
Disadvantages: Standard sports film storyline

I guess the target market for this DVD release would be the now (late)-30 somethings who fondly remember this film from their various misspend youths. Certainly that was how I picked up the film as this formed a vast amount of my video and film watching time back when I was a teenager. "Youngblood" tells the story of Dean Youngblood, a talented young ice hockey player who is desperate to leave the impoverished farm he works with his father and older ...
...Canadian youth team, the Hamilton Mustangs, he impresses the coach, Murray Chadwick, with his speed and skill but not so much with his size and strength. When the rough and ready Racki, a formidable rival trialist kicks Dean all over the ice it looks like Dean may not get the call up he so wants. Still all's well that ends well and Dean makes the team and gets to meet his new teammates, who strip and shave him. He also encounters Miss McGill his ... Read review

Bad boys! (spoilers)
Review of Brotherhood Of Justice DVD by LennieBenda

Advantages: Keanu before bill & ted fame
Disadvantages: the story is a bit ordinary

The Brotherhood of Justice is based on true events which occured in 1985 at R.L. Paschel High School, a Texas High School. The gang was called The Legion of Doom, and although the movie doesn't depict it, a coach was involved who backed the gang. The Brotherhood of Justice is a pretty good movie, even if you think Keanu Reeves isn't such a great actor, or at least is a two dimensional actor (especially in the roles he took in his 20s). Keanu Reeves ...
...Sentinel's potential victims, while the Brotherhood of Justice focuses primarily on its leader, Derek (Reeves). Both are, in my opinion good, although Brotherhood of Justice turned out to be a much better film and might appeal to a wider audience given the precense of many familiar faces including Lori Laughlin, Kiefer Sutherland (playing his typical wimpy, ultra-nice guy character), Billy Zane, Gary Riley (of Stand By Me and Summer School), and ... Apocalypto
Review of Apocalypto DVD by amerie86

Advantages: Great all round movie.
Disadvantages: A lot of violence

Apocalypto is the story of a happy Indian youth ripped savagely from his rainforest life by ruthless, bloodthirsty Mayan warriors. Its portrayal of the Mayan culture -- including its strange dress, hair styles, costumes, tattoos, body piercing, and decorative scars, as well as its industry, class system, cities, warfare, weapons, myth, and religion -- provide a bizarre and fascinating backdrop for what is, at its heart, a solid, thrilling, fast paced ...
...The movie does have a lot of violence, which although not for the faint hearted, is a realistic part of the culture being described. The whole movie is in an ancient native language, subtitled in English, and it lends an air of authenticity to the movie that I feel would have been missing otherwise. The acting is superb and the direction is without a doubt Mel Gibson's finest work. All in all a highly recommended movie. ... Read review

The Bourne Ultimatum
Review of The Bourne Ultimatum DVD by amerie86

Advantages: Matt Damon's performance
Disadvantages: n/a

...list of favourite actors until The Bourne series. It's a cliché I know but Matt Damon was born to play Jason Bourne. I think that no film he's been in before or since has fitted him quite as well. For me, Matt Damon delivers his best performance yet in The Bourne Ultimatum. If you are a fan of the first two Bourne movies, you will not be disappointed by The Bourne Ultimatum. For those who have seen the first two installments this installment fits ... Read review

105 Minutes of my Life Wasted
Review of 100 Million Years BC DVD by sewbizzie

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Most of the film, acting, story

...widescreen presentation 2.1 surround sound 100 million years back in time Dino Evolution Blooper reel Deleted scenes I have not wasted any more time in watching these as the film was such a let down. The film has a certificate of 15 which is probably about right as there are some scenes of men being killed and eaten by very unrealistic dinosaurs. Thankfully we only paid £2.97 for our copy of this film which I am pleased about as if I would ... Read review
