For Everyone's Eyes, Actually!

Advantages: Return to focus on Bond's character and the plot
Disadvantages: Less artistic camera work

Review of For Your Eyes Only (Ultimate Edition) (DVD)

Whisky anyone?

Advantages: Original Idea, reasonable performances from the lead characters
Disadvantages: Looking slightly dated now

An allegory of Vietnam, Southern Comfort, released in the late 1970's, brings an innovative and fresh slant onto the sometimes stale genre of the 'war film'. A group of American National Guardsmen, embarked on a weekend training mission in the swamps of Louisianna. What they don't count on though, is the local Cajun population taking offence to their presence and their 'firing' of a M60 loaded with blank ammo at some of the indigenous populace. ...

With the leader getting killed early on, the films main characters, Powers Boothe and Keith Carradine are left with a rapidly dwindling squad of inept squaddies with blank ammunition. The ending isn't bad, but it isn't good either. As you might expect, the two remaining characters (both lead actors) make it out of the 'swamp' and onto the road were assumingly they get picked up, or they get run over by a large bus, who knows? ...
