Oh my God, you're The Thunderbolt

Advantages: Cast, story
Disadvantages: Sad ending?

...you go back to them. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is one of those films that the BBC likes to use as a late night 'filler' - a little too risky for an earlier timeslot but solid depandable entertainment. Is it best resigned to the late night slot or is the Beeb doing it a great injustice? Loose cannon Lightfoot literally runs into a preacher on the run (who at the time is being shot at by a rather nasty man). Despite his collar, the preacher turns ...
...preacher is in fact The Thunderbolt who had robbed a high security bank several years earlier and the guys shooting at them are in fact his partners (who think that he's swindled them out of their share of the booty). Despite their experience, the three hardened crims allow themselves to be talked into performing the same heist again all over again, and practice does make perfect...doesn't it? The simple heist movie has been done time and time again ...

Did you leave a cigarette burning?

Advantages: Best disaster movie of the last century
Disadvantages: Some very cheesy lines

It's the launch party for the newly constructed, 138 storey skyscraper in the centre of San Francisco, supposedly the world's tallest skyscraper. With loads of prominent dignitaries and celebrities invited to the gala celebration, it is going to be a night to remember as they party on the 135th floor. After some wring short circuits in one of the systems, architect Doug Roberts believes that the skyscraper has not been built to his stringent specifications ...
...attempt to bring the development in under budget. As the party gets into full swing, a fire breaks out on the 81st floor, caused by more dodgy wiring, and the fire service are called. The fire quickly spreads and although the firemen do their best to stop it, they are pretty helpless 81 floors above the ground. As more fires start appearing, the party goers find themselves trapped and helpless in the penthouse. Now it's up to the chief of the fire ...

The Taking of Pelham 123 Remake: John Travolta, Denzel Washington

Advantages: Fantastic if you like action, and Denzel Washington is brilliant
Disadvantages: John Travolta might be a bit too old to be playing these roles

Long gone are the days where you'll see John Travolta donning flares and swinging his hips to music from the 50s as he once did for his role as Danny Zuko. Replace flares with shotguns, and "Blue Moon" with a hell of a lot of swearing, and you'll have your expectations set for the new film The Taking of Pelham 123. Starting out with a fast-paced MTV style montage of downtown Manhattan, we immediately start to feel the earthy, grungy, high-action ...
...claiming they aren't terrorists, terrify the crap out of everyone. Denzel Washington plays his usual hero role, this time as an unlucky subway controller working for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He begins just another day in the office as usual, but, in a sort of wrong place at the wrong time scenario, finds himself landed with having to communicate with Ryder's ransom demands for money, and lots of it. The team of controllers and cops ...

"To us, Mr Bond, we are the best."

Advantages: A colourful romp
Disadvantages: Lacks a bit of scope

The Man with the Golden Gun was the ninth film in the James Bond franchise and the second outing for actor Roger Moore. It was released in 1974 when the energy crisis was headline news and the United Kingdom still stood a feasible chance of getting a couple of points in the Eurovision Song Contest. The plot of The Man With The Golden Gun involves Francisco Scaramanga, a refined and expensive 'Hitman' with a big reputation. Scaramanga is especially ...
...London a golden bullet with the numbers '007' engraved on it. It's a clear message that he intends to kill James Bond next. Bond had been on the trail of a 'Solex Agitator', a gadget that can harness the power of the sun, but is now ordered to take some leave lest he should be killed by Scaramanga. Bond being Bond though, he decides that he will go and find this Scaramanga character first. Soon, 007 is playing a game of wits with the 'Solex' and ...
