Come Blow Your Hornee

Advantages: Very amusing sex comedy from the yesteryear
Disadvantages: It depends on your expectations

..."Trader" Horn in the movie Trader Horn, this epic African adventure (which later partially inspired the Indiana Jones movies) saw Horn encounter a group of African tribesmen ruled over by a white goddess; who just so happened to be an wealthy American heiress stranded there some years prior. Trader Horn went on to not just inspire the birth of one of modern cinemas greatest heroes, but also struck a chord with adult movie makers Jonathan Lucas and ...
...1970, as an adult movie Trader Hornee (Hornee pronounced Horn the E's are silent) is a really bizarre offering. For a sex comedy, and one made by adult filmmakers, there is very little "sex" to offend most people. Bridging a gap between the works of the late Russ Meyer and Laurel and Hardy, I'm sure you might already be able to form an image in your mind as to what this movie is like. Featuring Russ Meyers wobbly, disjointed, and often poorly cut ...

Who is in the red file?

Advantages: Classic espionage series starring Edward Woodward
Disadvantages: Series 2 not yet released on DVD

...To summarise the overall plot, Callan had done time in Wormwood Scrubs for a number of burglaries etc. Hunter, the head of the Secret Information Service of British Intelligence, had given Callan two options, stay and rot in prison, or to work for SIS. So that's how Callan was recruited. Now SIS are basically the part of British intelligence that have carte-blanche to do what they want - or are told to do. Anyone they are watching who is in a red ...
...And that's where David Callan often came in. You see, Hunter regarded Callan as his top operative. So if there was a killing to be done, Callan got the job. But that's where the show is so good - unlike most spies / agents, Callan had a real conscience. He hated killing just because he was told to do so. He wanted to know the reasons why, and often took it upon himself to find out. Which got him in trouble with the boss. At one point in the series, ...

Better than Spooks and a whole lot different.

Advantages: Compelling Drama
Disadvantages: Lack of Extras, poor picture quality.

...from the third season of Callan (Not the first as stated). These are the first episodes to be made in colour. The show ran from 1967 to 1972. Starring Edward Woodward as Callan, a member of the Section, a secret part of the SIS that deals with black ops, including wetjobs. Callan is the best operative that the section has but he has a vital weakness. He asks too many questions. His boss is a man codenamed Hunter (or Charlie). Many different people ...
...the excellent William Squires. Callan often has to contend with fellow agents who are often unsavoury characters. His usual sparring partner, the arrogant upper class sadist Toby Meres, is absent from this series. He is replaced by the young and cocky James Cross ( Patrick Mower). Callan is aided by the odorous Lonely, a man who suffers bad BO when scared, which is all the time. Callan terrifys him. Lonely was brilliantly portrayed by the late ...

Yojimbo saves the day once more

Advantages: Stunning scenery, quality acting and Japanese film making at its best.
Disadvantages: Audio is in the Japanese language, and the English subtitles are sometimes difficult to keep up with.

Set in feudal Japan, Ambush At Blood Pass features the Japanese hero Yojimbo, a ronin (lordless Samurai). Yojimbo accepts a mysterious mission from 'Crow' - a mission which could take him to two possible locations. Asked to wait for 5 days in a nearby village, Yojimbo receives message to travel to the snowy heights of Sanshu Pass. While travelling to his mission location, Yojimbo saves a beautiful young woman from her brutal husband, and accepts ...
...Beautifully shot in rural Japan, Ambush In Blood Pass features stunning scenery and quality acting from the Japanese cast. The film is slow to start, but the fight scenes are authentic, and there is a decent plot - though you can get confused about which side Yojimbo really is on. All in all, a good quality Japanese film which will leave you guessing to the end. ...

An overlooked gem that must be seen.

Advantages: Epic and unusual story about human nature, good action and acting.
Disadvantages: A bit dated now but thats all and dont let that put you off.

...first saw this movie on the TV some 20 years ago and couldn't wait for it to come out on Video ( pre DVD days ) unfortunately it never did. So keen was I to get a copy, I even wrote to Michael Caine to see if he knew where it could be obtained, surprisingly, he wrote back and said the only place he knew was in the US, so I forgot about it............then the DVD revolution hit and finally, I managed to get a copy and I highly recommend this movie. ...
...century when the religious wars between Catholic and Protestant were at their height. The story is based around a group of Mercenaries ( lead by Michael Caine ) who fight for whoever pays the highest amount of money. This was very common in the 17th Century and also at that time Germany was not a single country, as we know it today, it was made up of lots of small Principalities and each one of the Princes fought against the others to gain territory ...
