BULLITT STEVE MCQUEEN DVD (1968)
Advantages: THE VERY BEST CAR CHASE SEEN ON EARTH Disadvantages: THE GREEN BEETLE
Bullitt is the film, the Mustang for me is the show, when you talk about Car Chase's theres only one that really stands out for me yes I Know about Ronin, The Italian Job, French Connection, Taxi ect, all had great in car moments but Steve Mcqueen in a Mustang 68'gt on the streets of San Francisco in the 60's chasing the baddies is for me complete and utter octane. Steve Mcqueen plays Frank Bullitt who is a detective protecting a witness for a seedy ... ...Duvall everything looks right. Bullitt did win an Oscar but sadly not for the Car chase action but for best Film Editing which brings me back to the Great Chase, if you have watched it i.e the chase scene as much as me (probably over 500 times and wearing out VHS's and DVD players) you will notice a green VW Beetle Steve passes several times. Now if that films won an Oscar for best Editing (the green VW beetle) surely theres been a mistake just look ...

COOGAN'S BLUFF - SPAGHETTI VS DIRTY HARRY
Advantages: Good acting by Eastwood Disadvantages: Poor quality film, low Budget, bad script
Coogan's Bluff is a very low budget film starring Clint Eastwood. Made in 1968 after his successful run of Spaghetti Westerns, Eastwood stars in two films in this year. Coogan's Bluff and Where Eagles Dare. The Producer / Director Don Siegel (Dirty Harry, A Mule For Sister Sara, Escape From Alcatraz), used Herman Miller and co-writers Dean Riesner, Howard Rodmans script to bring to the screen through Universal Pictures - Coogan's Bluff. The film ... ...3 millions dollars), but the relationship between Siegel and Eastwood would be set for the next ten years where the character played by Eastwood, would be developed in to the well known and popular Inspector Harry Callahan (Dirty Harry).
The Story....

The Cold War on Ice
Advantages: Enjoyable action, good cast, some amusing lines. Disadvantages: Never really surprises, some poor sets and effects.
...rescue of the scientist of Ice Station Zebra. The rescue mission is, however, merely an excuse to go as Ferraday and his crew are joined by the mysterious David Jones (Patrick McGoohan, SILVER STREAK, SCANNERS), Russian Borris Vaslov (Ernest Borgnine, THE BLACK HOLE, GATTACA) and Captain Leslie Anders (Jim Brown, THE DIRTY DOZEN, 100 RIFLES) with his team of marines. It soon becomes apparent that the real reason to get to the Pole is to recover film ... ...the book by Alistair MacLean, Ice Station Zebra is a by the numbers Cold War action thriller with few real surprises but it is not a bad film all the same. There is the nearly sinking to the bottom of the ocean scene, which seems almost obligatory in films with submarines and the usual guess who the enemy agent is.
The acting is solid enough with some entertaining exchanges between McGoohan and Hudson –
Jones (McGoohan): Refreshingly informal, ...

Faster Than a Speeding Bullet (Ehh...Bullitt)
Advantages: A solid late 1960's movie. That totally incredible car chase sequence Disadvantages: Very poor storyline. Now a little dated.
...12-minute long car chase when Bullitt pursues two of the aforementioned mobsters around the streets of San Francisco in his highly tuned Ford Mustang. The bad guys are driving a Dodge Charger, by the way, and so with two legendary American "muscle" cars pitting themselves against each other neither are short of horsepower!
Watching a repeat of the movie recently on Sky Movies, I was taken just how dated this car chase has now become with the passage ... ...the car chase scene in Bullitt is truly remarkable.
What's also interesting is that this car chase could never be filmed today. Warner brothers got permission from the Mayor of San Francisco to use the actual city streets, something that wouldn't even be contemplated in today's safety conscious society. And no insurance company would ever be prepared to carry the horrendous financial risk of insuring the actors, the cars, and the public during the ...

Mini's in the streets
Advantages: Brilliant film Disadvantages: none
The Italian Job is a drama film directed by Peter Collinson and written by Troy Kennedy Martin. The film was released in 1969. This film is about Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) who has just been released from prison. He wants to do a big job which involves stealing $4 million of gold in Italy. However he needs money to help fund the job, so he asks crime boss, Mr Bridger (Noel Coward) for assistance. Croker has devised an ingenious plan to steal ... ...planning the heist. This leads to a memorable car chase through the streets of Italy.
This is a classic film that has a great soundtrack which really adds to the mood and atmosphere of the story. Noel Coward provides gravitas as the Mr Bridger and Michael Caine is great as the gangs leader who orchestrates the whole heist. The film features Benny Hill in a small role as Professor Simon Peach. The car chase is brilliant and stunning, and has since ...
