Connery lives twice again after this
Advantages: Great atmospheric and artistic Bond film Disadvantages: Nothing really
...in 1967 with this offering, You Only Live Twice, once again starring the charismatic Sean Connery, but with Lewis Gilbert in the director's chair for this one.
The Plot
With the Cold War ever intense, criminal organisation S.P.E.C.T.R.E. tries another tack. American and Russian spacecraft have disappeared in outer space, and they are blaming each other. Anxious to avoid all out war, Bond is dispatched to Japan to seek out the perpetrators. This ... ...enter into a relationship.
You Only Live Twice was filmed almost entirely on location in Japan, and the filming is done marvellously, capturing the beauty of the countryside and the mountains and castles. The Japanese music employed in the film also sets the scene and the mood in all sequences. The acting and directing is also done very well, and I found myself enjoying this film from an angle different to that of a Bond film, more from a critical ...

Violent but Entertaining
Advantages: Superb direction, excellent acting Disadvantages: Graphic violence
Bonnie and Clyde should be considered one of the great ground breaking movies and not just for some of the cinema effects used. Bonnie and Clyde as directed by Arthur Penn told the story not from the side of law enforcement but from the side of the villains. By doing so the crimes of the couple were romanticised and the law enforcers were portrayed as variously stupid and finally cruel. The film continued the development of Warren Beatty as a Hollywood ... ...which charted ‘The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde’ and the establishment of crossover culture in fashion and music from the cinema was born. This was the probably the first time that cinema was used in this way where previously the crossover had been from pop artists making films such as Elvis, Cliff Richard etc.
The pace and direction of the film are superb and long before the spellbinding and closing end sequence you are gripped by the ...

"The things I do for England."
Advantages: Fun! Disadvantages: A bit daft
You Only Live Twice is the fifth film in the James Bond series and was released in 1967. It was the first film in the series to be based on an original screenplay rather than a Fleming novel and was written by popular children's author Roald Dahl. Fleming's story of an amnesiac Bond stalking Blofeld in a strange Japanese castle was discarded in favour of an outlandish script which sees the United States and Soviet Union played off agaisnt each other ... ...onscreen encounter with 007...
You Only Live Twice is widely regarded to be one of the dafter James Bond films but a hugely entertaining one nonetheless. The film continues the trend towards larger than life mayhem and gadgets and is most famous for Ken Adam's incredible production design which created a gigantic hollowed out volcano set for Blofeld's base, including a sliding roof and monorail! You Only Live Twice was by some distance the most ...

This guy is a Rice-Sniffer. Nuff said.
Advantages: Totally bizarre experience, yet outstanding Disadvantages: Could be too bizarre for some
Hanada Goro. Number 3 ranked killer. He loves the smell of rice. Yes that's right, rice. This film is totally surreal, posing as some sort of 60's hitman movie, but its more than that. Infact, the director, Seijun Suzuki got fired by Nikkatsu Studios because this film was simply too weird for them.
The story starts of with Hanada deciding to help out a friend, a former ranked hitman, by taking up a job that involves being some sort of bodyguard. ... ...the waiter to cook some rice, and proceeds to the kitchen to do some sniffing, while unknown to him his wife is being groped by the man from whom he accepted the job from. He encounters trouble, in the form of Number 2, whom he proceeds to succeed by setting him alight. Now that he his Number 2, he takes a lift back home. The driver is an attractive lady, Misako, with whom Hanada falls for. Hanada has another job offer, which he accepts. The manner ...

BONNIE & CLYDE
1967
FILM ONLY REVIEW
INTRODUCTION
It was Georgie Fame's song, 'The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde' that reached number one on January 24, 1968, which he wrote after watching the 1967 Arthur Penn film, 'Bonnie & Clyde', that first drew my attention to the film. I guarantee that anybody of a 'certain age' will now be singing that song!! At the time the film, starring Warren Beatty (as Clyde Barrow) and Faye ... ...controversial ending by suggesting that Bonnie and Clyde were mythic, larger-than-life characters and so the ending had to be fitted to legendary figures rather than ordinary people. It certainly had an impact on an 18 year old me!! THE REAL BONNIE AND CLYDE
Bonnie Parker (October 1, 1910 - May 23, 1934) and Clyde Barrow (March 24, 1909 - May 23, 1934) were well known outlaws, robbers, and criminals who, with their gang, travelled around ...
