The quickist sword in the west.
Review of Yojimbo DVD by oldgoth

Advantages: brilliant film
Disadvantages: maybe difficult to get hold a copy.

...similar these films are, watch Yojimbo first and then A Fist Full of Dollars, without Yojimbo there would have been no Fist Full of Dollars. It would be unfair to say which film is best, as in my eyes they are both great films. The image Yojimbo gives of Japan at sometime during the 19 Century is that of a declining and corrupt Japan, which much of the country under the control of gangsters and corrupt officials. The film also portrays a national ...
...with the samurai, who normally having a high moral code being honoured and feared at the same time. The films also shows how these traditions are beginning to be opened up to western influences, this can be seen in the role Unosuke, played by Tatsuya Nakadai. He plays the son of one of the gangster who returns to the town in tradition clothes, but bearing an American gun which he uses instead of tradition weapons, thus making him a powerful force ... Have you ever had your dream shattered???
Review of A Raisin In The Sun (Wide Screen) by tajo_dre

Advantages: Teaches alot about black culture in the 50s
Disadvantages: Its in black and white

...later discovered that there was a film but I didn't get the chance to see it until in 2007 I came across the DVD on the internet. This story is a very cultural and historical movie. There is not much difference between the movie and the book as for as i could tell. THE OVERVIEW Originally this was a Broadway play written by Lorraine Hansberry's; it was the first African American play to be produce by Broadway. A Raisin in the Sun is about ...
...The movie is based on a lot of themes such as abortion, trust, family values, greed, and even atheism but most of all racial prejudice. The film revolves around a $10,000 insurance check made out to Lena Younger due to the death of her late husband. Every one has their own idea of how they are going to spend their new wealth. But Lena as I would call her the back bone of the family only plan is to retire from her domestic job for a white family buy ... Read review

Apocalypto
Review of Apocalypto DVD by amerie86

Advantages: Great all round movie.
Disadvantages: A lot of violence

Apocalypto is the story of a happy Indian youth ripped savagely from his rainforest life by ruthless, bloodthirsty Mayan warriors. Its portrayal of the Mayan culture -- including its strange dress, hair styles, costumes, tattoos, body piercing, and decorative scars, as well as its industry, class system, cities, warfare, weapons, myth, and religion -- provide a bizarre and fascinating backdrop for what is, at its heart, a solid, thrilling, fast paced ...
...The movie does have a lot of violence, which although not for the faint hearted, is a realistic part of the culture being described. The whole movie is in an ancient native language, subtitled in English, and it lends an air of authenticity to the movie that I feel would have been missing otherwise. The acting is superb and the direction is without a doubt Mel Gibson's finest work. All in all a highly recommended movie. ... Read review

The Bourne Ultimatum
Review of The Bourne Ultimatum DVD by amerie86

Advantages: Matt Damon's performance
Disadvantages: n/a

...list of favourite actors until The Bourne series. It's a cliché I know but Matt Damon was born to play Jason Bourne. I think that no film he's been in before or since has fitted him quite as well. For me, Matt Damon delivers his best performance yet in The Bourne Ultimatum. If you are a fan of the first two Bourne movies, you will not be disappointed by The Bourne Ultimatum. For those who have seen the first two installments this installment fits ... Read review

105 Minutes of my Life Wasted
Review of 100 Million Years BC DVD by sewbizzie

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Most of the film, acting, story

...widescreen presentation 2.1 surround sound 100 million years back in time Dino Evolution Blooper reel Deleted scenes I have not wasted any more time in watching these as the film was such a let down. The film has a certificate of 15 which is probably about right as there are some scenes of men being killed and eaten by very unrealistic dinosaurs. Thankfully we only paid £2.97 for our copy of this film which I am pleased about as if I would ... Read review
