Review of Humphrey Bogart Classics - Vol. 2 - The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre /To Have And Have Not /They Drive By Night DVD by
pedroj
Advantages: 2 acknowledged classics
Disadvantages: "they drive by night" is a filler
To call this collection "classics" is stretching it slightly when They Drive by Night is really a George Raft film where Bogart is in a supporting role and had not quite broken through into the big time with The Maltese Falcon etc. This film, the third here, is average and the weak point of the threesome.
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is acknowledged as a classic and often rates highly in polls but I have to admit it is not a personal favourite. ... ...Bogie, the tale of greed corrupting friendships is timeless but looking back the acting often seems over the top with Bogart looking like he was looking for a statuette for his performance. In a nutshell, three prospectors set off looking for gold and are gradually driven into insanity by the lure of great riches as each starts to doubt the honesty and trustworthiness of the others.
The real star for me though is To Have and Have Not which teamed ...

GOLD FEVER
Review of Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The by
proxam
Advantages: The direction, the acting, the story
Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...asked. It's...... THE TREASURE of the SIERRA MADRE
In 1948, Warner Bros brought us this classic tale of adventure starring Humphrey Bogart. Based on the book by Berwick Traven, and adapted by John Huston, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is an adventure story of classic proportions. Oh, there's all sorts of other stuff going on - an examination of men's triumph over almost insurmountable adversity; the exploration of greed and how men's avarice ... ...I seldom do. But The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is one movie that I could happily watch time and time again. If you've never seen it, I recommend it to you unreservedly. If you have seen it, watch it again, you know it makes sense. Thanks for reading, ©proxam2004 ...

Out For Dead Presidents
Review of Dead Presidents (Wide Screen) by
BZ2886
Advantages: Great soundtrack, fascinating story, well acted,
Disadvantages: Brutally realistic at times,
Dead Presidents is a 1995 film, written and directed by (Allen and Albert,) The Hughes Brothers, known for directing 'Menace II Society' and 'From Hell.' It stars Larenz Tate (Menace II Society), Chris Tucker (Rush Hour) and Freddy Rodriguez (Planet Terror/Six Feet Under.)
The documents a four year period between 1969 and 1973 in The New York Bronx district during the vietnam war and follows the fortunes of three schoolfriends and the other surrounding ... ...primarily set in New York. Dead President's contrasts these two settings to make a statement on the impact of war upon people and addresses alot of the issues faced by the soldiers when they try to reassimilate themselves back into everyday society.
The Plot (A few spoilers, pretty detailed, but nothing too big I promise)
The film begins quite light-heartedly with three friends casually joking around together efore their impending graduation. ...

Bus pass Bond
Review of A View To A Kill (Ultimate Edition) by
Timbo3107
Advantages: Original sequences involving a Horse race.
Disadvantages: Morre is too old to be believable as 007.
The title of A View to a Kill is taken from Ian Fleming's short story called From a View to a Kill. Published in April 1960 as part of a collection of short stories in the novel For Your Eyes Only, the story tells of Bond going undercover to investigate the murder of a dispatch rider in France.
This was Roger Moore's seventh and final outing as 007, at the time Moore was 58 and had been in the role of Bond for twelve years so the believability factor ... ...sequence begins with Bond recovering a microchip from the dead body of 003 in Siberia. The chip is the key to the whole plot of the film and from this Bond begins to uncover a web of intrigue and a plan for world domination that has disastrous consequences for the west coast of America. The plot has absolutely nothing to do with the novel at all; in fact the only similarities to the novel are the location of part of the story which begins in France. ...
