A wicked treat
Review of The Wicked Lady DVD by survey4ross

Advantages: Hilarious & racy costume drama
Disadvantages: At times too melodramatic

The Wicked Lady is a sumptuous tale of excitement, passion, danger and deceit. Margaret Lockwood plays Barbara Skelton, who engages in treachery almost from the outset by stealing her best friend's man. It becomes clear that she is a ruthless character who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, even engaging in highway robbery to enliven her dull existence. Soon she meets a notorious highwayman, Jerry Jackson, and sparks soon begin to fly between ... Read review

Disadvantages: OK, "Pirates of the Caribbean" it ain't

Starring: Charles Laughton as Captain Kidd Randolph Scott as Adam Mercy John Carradine as Orange Povey Gilbert Roland as Jose Lorenzo Reginald Owen as Cary Shadwell It's 1699 and this is a really fun old romp about treacherous and ruthless pirate Captain Kidd, played with gusto by the great Charles Laughton. Kidd decides to hire posh manservant Shadwell to give him elecution lessons and tips on how to behave in front of polite society - eg, ...
...less, sir,' to which Captain replies, impressed, 'You seem to know your business.' With the help of Shadwell's handy hints, Kidd manages to come across (just about) well enough to persuade King William III to let him and his crew 'escort' a big merchant ship carrying a humungous amount of treasure outside of Madagascar. As for crew, Kidd asks the King to allow him to recruit these from among the city's condemned imprisoned pirates, stating that ' ... Read review

Excellent Movie
Review of Iron Man DVD by Classkeeper

Advantages: Stunning visuals
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit long

...by terrorists and manages to escape using a very crude iron suit, and the story goes on from there really. What really sells the movie are the special effects. The suits are superbly developed and look fantastic. This movie is well worth the purchase and will keep you entertained throughout. ... Read review

2012: Is This The Olympic Games?
Review of Death Race DVD by sghawken

Advantages: Considerably better than the original
Disadvantages: Some muppet will claim it's unbelievable and far fetched

...little reluctant to look at Death Race, it had a couple of bad things going for it; firstly it was a re-make of a 1975 movie called Death Race 2000 which absolutely bored me to tears, and secondly the appearance of the incredibly dull Jason Statham. What made me change my mind I hear you cry? Will it was what in my opinion was the unusual casting of Ian McShane (best known from the long running BBC show Lovejoy). Add to this the fact that it's directed ...
...the reality TV sports show Death Race. In Death Race prisoners must race against each other in a three day, three event race. If a prisoner wins a race five times he is freed, given a full pardon in fact, if he loses, well it's best put that the losers don't get to discover the reality of losing, the only way out of Death Race is first across the finish line, otherwise your bound to be in the morgue. Frankenstein (David Carradine reprising his role ... Read review

Will Smith is Hancock
Review of Hancock DVD by Wilko1981

Advantages: Will Smith!
Disadvantages: Trailer makes it out to be funnier than it is

...by Jason Baleman. He and Hancock first meet when Ray finds him self trapped in his car on a train crossing facing certain death until Hancock saves him. He then takes Hancock home to his wife, played by Charlize Theron, who has some secrets of her own. Against her will Ray vows to help him better his image and prove to the people of the city that he is the superhero that they deserve. This is generally a good film, very funny in places. But seems ...
...like throwing the whale into the sea and the terrible landings. The funniest bit by far is in prison when a prisoner dares to call Hancock "arsehole" one too many times.....! Over all, I would recommend this light hearted film. Especially if you are a fan of Will Smith. ... Read review
