A haunting in Vietnam (or is it Cambodia?)
Advantages: Creepy, never obvious what direction the film will take Disadvantages: The uniform makes it hard to tell the characters apart
It is 1972 and the South Koreans are stationed in Vietnam when a radio transmission is received, apparently from a platoon of men thought dead, begging for help. The leaders quickly put together a small team, under the direction of Lieutenant Choi, a man known for his cruelty and ability to get the most of out his men. Choi is to take his men to R Point, the area where the missing platoon was last thought to be. On arrival, the team find an old mansion ... ...are unsettled by a tombstone that tells of the many Vietnamese who were killed by the Chinese in the previous century. Then strange things begin to happen, starting with a visit from a team of Americans who shouldn't have been there. Can Lieutenant Choi find his compatriots and lead his men to safety? Or are they all doomed to die at R Point? Lieutenant Choi is the leader of the group and, played by Woo-Seong Kam, is really the only recognisable ...

remember the dead, remember the mortal

...visuals and characters. Memento Mori is a part of three-film series (along with with Whispering Corridors and Wishing Stairs) Wishing Stairs being about girls at school that believe if you walk the wishing stairs and reach the 28th the 29th will appear and grant you your wish. Whispering Corridors, involving the female school, with brutality and abuse, by the teachers - and previous suicides of the school goers. The films are only linked through ... ...Memento Mori is part three in the film series.
Memento Mori is not much of a horror movie, but focuses on the tragic events and the relationship between two girls. Min-ah (played by Min-sun Kim) a student who films a diary that is kept by two girls at the school, which were involved in a secret relationship with one another, basically the friendship is just intense relationship, without any sexual content, which would add tension to the movie. The ...

Be careful what you wish for
Advantages: Intriguing story, beautifully filmed Disadvantages: Not that scary, one bizarre performance
...for her. Hae-ju climbs the wishing stairs and wishes for So-hee's return. But when So-hee returns, she comes intent on vengeance.
Ji-hyo Song is great as Jin-sung. She is a little annoying when she is going through her jealous stage - but then she is acting like a spoiled schoolgirl, which is exactly what she is supposed to be. I would have liked to see a bit more fear from her when So-hee returns though - it is a slightly unrealistic storyline ... ...director, Jae-yeon Yun. Wishing Stairs is the third of a series of films called the Whispering Corridors. However, there is no need to watch the films in order; or indeed to even worry about watching the others in the series, because each is a stand-alone film. What they do have in common is that they are all set in high schools and tend to deal with typical teenage traumas like bullying and revenge. This particular one deals with the issues of bullying ...

Glossy blockbuster fun and nothing more.
Advantages: Glossy blockbuster fun, nothing more Disadvantages: None
...me to this film was the title. Well its a reimagining of the classic Sergio Leone spaghetti western "The Good The Bad and the Ugly" from 1966 only its set in 1930s Manchuria during the Japanese occupation. In the last decade Korean cinema has started to attract a fare amount attention with many films being snapped up for the dreaded Hollywood remake. This time the water flows in a different direction with Kim Ji-woon deciding to attempt the classic ... ...that but I constantly got the impression that while the film is supposed set in 1930s it generally lacked the authenticity of a period film which in itself is not necessarily a fault but I sat there thinking after about an hour that someone was going to whip out a mobile phone any second and twitter for help. Generally I find films like this to be utter nonsense and The Good the bad the weird is no exception. All they have done is up the violence ...

Crank 2: High Voltage was released this year and contains Jason Statham again. Chelio’s tears through the town in search for the Chinese criminal who has possession of his heart. Amy Smart, Dwight Yoakham, and Efren Ramirez revisit their roles from the original film. ***OVERALL OPINION***
