No Challenge for Sharpe
Review of Sharpe's Challenge DVD by demonbarak

Advantages: Superbly shot, great casting
Disadvantages: none really!

I have to admit, i was absolutely gutted when this came out. I'd just spent a small fortune on the boxset. On the other hand, I was chuffed to bits, sharpe was back! It'd been a long time since Sean Bean had donned that uniform, and it shows - though it fits in perfectly with the storyline. The storyline is loosely based on the book "Sharpes Fortress" - the last of the Sharpe in India series. In Challenge, Sharpe returns to India as a retired ...
...gets himself involved with the Incompetent Simmerson (the most hated of sharpes enemies!) and ends up posing as a redcoat deserter, to rescue the ailing generals daughter and save the day - though things go terribly wrong when a captured sargeant gives Sharpe and Harper away - and as always with Sharpe, death, mass explosions and screaming charges ensue! Despite the fact that over a decade had passed between waterloo and challenge, Sean Bean and ... Read review

A very good historical drama.
Review of Sharpe - Complete (Box Set) by banksy86

Advantages: Historically accurate with terrific battle scenes.
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of dvd extras.

Sharpe is based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell. He is a young infantry soldier in the napoleonic war who gets raised from the ranks by the Duke of Wellington after saving his life. There are 14 dvd's in the box set but there are very few extras. The programme is about the troubles and the battles he faces as a officer raised from the ranks the series concludes with the battle of waterloo. Because the programme was made in the nineties the picture ... Read review

King George commands and we obey
Review of Sharpe's Rifles / Sharpe's Eagle DVD by Secre

Advantages: Everything - plot, characters, acting, literally everything
Disadvantages: Nothing...if I'm pushed I could possibly say that they are long for single episodes.

...is the first chronological film, Sharpe's Rifles is not the first chronological novel, which would be Sharpe's Tiger when he starts as a private, but the events described in that book are placed much later in the TV show. DETAILS Title: Sharpe's Rifles / Sharpe's Eagle [1993] Date DVD released: 29 April 2002 Runtime: 200 minutes Number of Disks: 2 Format: PAL Director: Tom Clegg Main Actors: Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Daragh O'Malley, Assumpta ...
...period is quite extraordinary. Both Sharpe's Rifles and Sharpe's Eagle are set in 1809, and with both of these two episodes the book and the episode are very similar, with only slight differences. The knowledge of the period is not however only limited to the battles and events, but a very in depth knowledge of how the army in that period worked, and how the weapons were used, including the difference between rifles and muskets which I had never ... Sharpes Rifles
Review of Sharpe's Rifles DVD by strawbs1

Advantages: Brilliant
Disadvantages: None

I haven't read the book this DVD is taken from but I have however seen most if not all of the Sharpe series on the Television and I also have a few of the full length VHS tapes. Its the same old subject matter to any great film, book or series, an action hero who is not perfect but always manages to get the girl in end. I like the historical aspects of the series and agree that the scenes are very well shot and the story lines are brilliant. I really ... Read review

Sharpe fans, do we really need it?
Review of Sharpe's Challenge DVD by whydah_appeal

Advantages: another Sharpe film
Disadvantages: very far fetched

...and the recent addition of Sharpe's exploits in India have breathed new life into this great series. The films too are great and the original series boxset still fetches a good price on Ebay, I know Ive been outbid often enough! So getting to the point Sharpes challenge, I have one question for sharpe fans to think about, did we really need it? The plotline is loosely based on the recent books tracing Sharpes beginnings in India, but it's set after ...
...find Harper, after finding him in India they set about infiltrating the Indian Fortress of Sarangpatan as Deserters, here Sharpe meets Dodds, his nemesis throughout the India Books, and lets say saves the day. Sean Bean is great, Sharpe is Great, and the production is great, but I really dont think this works. I think that if they were going to cover the India campaigns they really needed a younger actor and set it where it should be, before Sharpes ... Read review
