Review of Top Gun / Days Of Thunder (Double Pack) by walasdair

Advantages: pure entertainment with no intellectual challenge
Disadvantages: can be too cheesey if not your thing

...for, to be entertaining. Top Gun, the most expensive ever made at the time of its release, tells the story of a reckless but brilliant young US navy fighter pilot (Maverick) living in the shadow of his reputable fighter pilot father. The film follows Maverick and his co-pilot and best friend, Goose, through the training ground that is 'Top Gun', the pilot school where the 'best of the best' are pitted against each other. This film has all the usual ...
...sees Maverick competing at the top of his class before being involved in a tragic accident in the air. Struggling with the mental effects of the incident, Maverick reconsiders what is important to him before being called into a real life crisis where his strength is tested for real. Red Dragon... With Teeth
Review of Manhunter (Special Edition) by cokane

Advantages: Superb performances, genuinely chilling
Disadvantages: It's a bit 80's... look at Petersens Hair!

...a small featurette called the Manhunter look where he talks about how the movies unique look was achieved. We also have a featurette called Inside Manhunter where the actors talk about their roles and the direction of Michael Mann. This gives a good insight, with Tom Noonan's contribution revealing a lot about the effect his role had on him. Mann did not do a commentary which is not unusual for his DVD releases which may disappoint those who buy ... Read review

Review of Army of Darkness - Evil Dead 3 DVD by oracle51

Advantages: Really looks like they enjoyed making this
Disadvantages: That there isn't a fourth trilogy (I know it impossible but hey)

Ash is back in the third installment of Evil Dead. This time he comes with a movie budget and a sense of humour - two things which were a little limited in it's low budget predecessors. They really look like they had fun with this one. The crew and the directors/special effects gang. The plot and subplots are really bizarre and Bruce Campbell (Ash) plays the arrogant, misguided hero brilliantly. In this movie Ash is dragged kicking and screaming ... Read review
