Advantages: A good cure for insomnia Disadvantages: Might just put you off sex! Sex scenes are smutty and grubby.
...with the corpulent Marcos. Perhaps I missed the point that Reygadas was trying to make, or maybe there wasn't a point and it was just art for art's sake.
Overall I didn't appreciate this as an art film although my research tells me that this is what it is supposed to be. For me it was lacking in artistic merit and came across as being a bit 'grubby' to say the least.

Advantages: Great direction and camera work, brilliant casting Disadvantages: The far-fetched plot and dream sequences may not appeal to everyone
...as a slightly mad, arty friend.
The bizarre plot is enhanced further by the use of dream/fantasy sequences, which admittedly are an acquiredtaste and won’t appeal to everyone, but for anyone who likes something slightly removed from run of the mill stories with a beginning, middle and end, they can only add to your enjoyment of the film. They also allow the Coen brothers to indulge in some fantastic camera work, along with some of the reality scenes at the bowling alley where we are treated to shots of shiny bowling balls, mechanical processes behind the scenes and pins flying left right and centre. If you like your movies to be a visual treat then you will certainly not be disappointed.
I strongly recommend The Big Lebowski to any discerning film fans, so why not mix yourself a White Russian (that’s Vodka, Kahlua and Milk, for the uninitiated...
