Straight of the bat, let me say that this is an excellent film. It is one of the funniest films of the last ten years and is far better than any of Carrey's other work (although I have not yet seen Man on the Moon). It was the first of Carrey's career defining movies, and the next few movies that he came out with (Dumb and Dumber and the Mask) rode the wave of this success. These three films were some of the largest films of their time and saw Carrey's hollywood standing higher than Stallone, Willis and any other A-stream actors (this is referring to box office takings). Carrey is Ace Ventura who is hired for his services as pet detective, to track down the mascot of the Miami Dolphins. The film also uses the talents of Courney Cox as a pre-Friends love line.! The sequel was lacking and although Carrey's performances have pretty much been repetitions of previous work (until Man On the Moon) this is still one of the comedy classics that everyone should watch.
