...Abbott and Costello's Jack and the Bean Stalk.
Saw this film just before Christmas; I remember how much I used to laugh whenever I saw Abbott and Costello on the television when I was younger,
So for £4.99 I thought, what a bargain.
Bar of Chocolate, bag of crisps, and a mug of tea, I was sorted, ready for a good nights viewing of laughter.
Well to be brutally honest, I cant remember laughing once, It was nothing that the guys were doing different or wrong, the routine was just as I remember it to be, but I know longer found them funny at all.
In fact I was quite shocked at how badly Budd seemed to treat Lou, I felt really sorry for the little guy.
The story is basically as we all know it, but in this film, it starts as Jack is baby sitting young Donald, he reads him the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' to help settle him down...

Bean 'n Gone Review ofJack And The Beanstalk - The Real Story DVDby
Borg
Advantages: Disc would make a nice Frisbee Disadvantages: Too many to count.
...I remember summer holidays from school, spending mornings watching films by these two comics as they used to show a lot of their re-runs in those days. (When ah were a lad!) They made a lot of spoof horror films as I recall, such as ‘Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein…’ or the Mummy… They were pretty funny as well, or so I thought. I have been checking out old films a bit of late – I recently watched a Laurel and Hardy film, but that was pants. Would Bud and Lou restore my faith in comedy of the 1950’s? Would I be happy to climb the tallest building in the area and shout down to the people, ‘Hey, you, fear not! For this comedy duo can still...

Advantages: Witty, gritty, thrilling... the best gangster film I've seen in years. Disadvantages: A bit of a Deus ex machina ending, some predictable moments...negligable really
..."I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me. Years ago we had the church. That was only a way of saying - we had each other. The Knights of Columbus were real head-breakers; true guineas. They took over their piece of the city. Twenty years after an Irishman couldn't get a f&*$ing job, we had the presidency. May he rest in peace. That's what the n*&$ers don't realize. If I got one thing against the black chappies, it's this - no one gives it to you. You have to take it." These opening lines by Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) in Scorsese's film "Departed" are delivered cheerfully and without rancor, just letting you know how things are here. They definitely set the stage for this interesting drama.
"Departed" isn't just about what lies under the belly of Boston's clever workingman...
