Alvin and the Chipmunks is in my opinion a brilliant piece of family entertainment. It is clean, light and humorous, which are for me the most important factors.
Alvin and the Chipmunks is a film targeted at children and ells the story of three chipmunks, Simon, Alvin and Theodore, whoa re discovered as great singers by the currently crashing and burning songwriter Dave Seville. The Chipmunks however cause Dave no end of problems, wrecking his house, his friendship with Clare and ultimately loosing him his job.
In an attempt to redeem themselves the "boys" pay Ian, a record producer, a visit and perform for him. Within no time they have been flung into the showbiz spotlight and are living life to the max. A few weeks ago I was nosing through the reference section in Waterstones when I came across a new book by Alvin Hall, or rather I thought it was a new book. On closer inspection I learnt that it was actually published in 2004, so relatively new, and still new to me.
Some of you might have heard of Alvin, no not Stardust and he isn't one of the chip monks, but a personal finance guru, known for being pretty hard line in his views. I hadn't actually read any of his books up to this point, but had seen him on plenty of chat shows and radio interviews. The book is called 'What not to spend' and has a picture on the front of Alvin grinning manically whilst clutching several high end shopping bags to his chest.
The front cover promises ' Priceless ways to manage your money' and describes Alvin Hall as 'The Mr Motivator of the money ...
Advantages: A great tribute. Stellar line-up. Benefits a worthy cause. Disadvantages: Some of the fashons are now very dated!
These two DVDs comprise a tributeto Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991 after succumbing to AIDS. All the artists involved gave their time for free - and those included reads like a Who's Who of British rock music, in addition to artists from overseas such as Metallica and Liza Minelli.
There is an array of "extras" on the 2 DVDs, including rehearsal footage for each act (press enter when you see the "i" box at the corner of your screen), a documentary on the great Freddie Mercury and press photos from the event itself.
